02-08-16 August Clubnight

Qualifying
Gavin Maciver was top qualifier in the GT12 class closely followed by David Simpson both drivers on 33 laps. Nick Wallace was in third place on 32 laps, Bob Harley, Daniel Lacey and Chelle Snowden with 31. Gavin, David, Nick and Chelle were the only drivers to lap under 11 seconds.
Round 1 of the Mardave class produced the closest race of the evening with Paul Galbraith winning by just 1/100th second from Jordan Galbraith with Wes Wray finishing in third place. Paul also won round 2 but Jordan had a great run in the final round to take pole position in the final.

Finals
The first final was the Mardave class and it was agreed for a change (or was it to make it more difficult for Jordan) to have a reverse grid start with Jensen Wray taking pole position and Jordan Galbraith starting at the back of the grid. Well it only took Jordan two laps to overtake everyone and storm away to a tremendous win, lapping everyone in the field and setting the quickest lap time, being over half a second better than anyone else. Mike Simpson finished second, Paul Galbraith third and Roy Matthews fourth.
Can he repeat his performance next week with his brother Joshua also racing and be the top “Team Galbraith” driver in round 4 of the super league. He sounded very confident at the end of the evening and was heard to say “I am going to get Josh next week!”

In the GT12 C final pole position driver Connor Reeve had to leave early paving the way for Mike Simpson to win after a good race with Steve Donald who finished second ahead of Alwyn Hodges in third place.

Some exciting racing in the B final, pole position driver Daniel Lacey was in good form again but all to no avail as he forgot his transponder and did not record any laps – good job it was not a league week! Chelle Snowden won the race with the second best time overall in the finals – well done Chelle, Dave Tomlinson was second and Matt Popejoy third.

Gavin Maciver had yet another win the A final, Nick Wallace took a fine second place and Bob Harley was third.

26-07-16 Summer League Round 10

Gavin Maciver wins the GT12 League with another maximum points from the evening.
Daniel Lacey makes it maximum points from all ten rounds in Division 3 with a brilliant second place finish in the A Final.
Mike Simpson wins the V12 Mardave League.

Qualifying
Gavin Maciver won all three rounds of qualifying to take pole position in the A Final, Daniel Lacey was second in rounds 1 and 2 with Chelle Snowden pushing him down to third place in round 3 by just 0.55 seconds. David Snowden took fourth place overall with his new car.
In the Mardave class the pressure was on Paul Galbraith to be top qualifier and maintain his challenge for the league title, it was close but Mike Simpson was quickest followed by Paul and then Joshua Galbraith in third spot with some every fast laps.

Finals
The Mardave Final saw Joshua Galbraith hit the front on lap 4 and steadily increase his lead over the rest of the field with some very driving. With the finish nearly in sight he had a mechanical problem with his car giving a chance to Mike Simpson and Jordan Galbraith, he held on to the lead however to take a well deserved win after Mike collided with another car on the very last lap – what an exciting finish! – Mike being second and Jordan Galbraith third, not a good evening for Paul Galbraith who finished fourth!  A Galbraith team debrief followed later!

Courtney Orme won the GT12 C Final, beating Alwyn Hodges and visiting driver Jamie Hall.

David Snowden had a good drive in the GT12 B Final to win from Mike Simpson with new member Steve Donald third.

In the GT12 A Final Gavin Maciver was in the lead from start to finish with some excellent driving. Chelle Snowden held onto second place up to lap 9 when an “in form” Daniel Lacey overtook her and went on to take second place at the finish – an outstanding performance this to win him promotion to division 2 in the next league.

Summer League Round 9

A much depleted field of drivers this week due a combination of holidays and the extremely hot and humid weather.
Yes it was hot with drivers trying to concentrate with sweat dripping off their brow’s!
A great evening though with some fine races.

This was the penultimate round of the current league with Gavin Maciver being fastest qualifier and winning the GT12 A final to take yet another maximum points for the evening. A win in the final round next week would give him the maximum possible league score of 328 points – no pressure Gavin!   Chelle Snowden was also in sparkling form taking second place in the A final and setting the fastest lap time along the way. Can she beat Gavin next week?.

It was an evening of drivers achieving maximum points with Bob Harley doing so in division 2 and is now assured of the league title. At the bottom of the division the Club Chairman and Secretary are at present joint last – who will avoid being there at the end of next week?

Daniel Lacey continued his incredible run in division 3 finishing fourth in the A Final and has now won all nine rounds – just one more to make it a clean sweep – a feat not achieved by anyone for some time.

Mike Simpson took over the lead from Paul Galbraith in the club mardave class and with just five points separating them set the scene for a nail biting final round next week.

12-07-16 Summer League Round 8

Gary Kirkpatrick and Shane West take the top two places in the qualifying with Gavin Maciver in third spot.
Bob Harley takes maximum points in division 2 ahead of Matt Popejoy and the club Chairman Rob Hambridge.
Daniel Lacey stretches his unbeaten run in division 3 to 8 rounds.
Joshua Galbraith charged to an impressive top qualifier place in the mardave class but looked a little run down after his battery connections came adrift in the final and his dad Paul took the win.

Qualifying
Some great driving with Gavin Maciver quickest in round 1, then Gary Kirkpatrick winning both rounds 2 and 3 with Shane West in second place. So pole position in the A final for Gary, followed by Shane and Gavin.
Matt Popejoy was fastest in division 2 through the first two rounds but Bob Harley had an excellent run in round 3 to finish ahead of Matt.
Daniel Lacey was again fastest in division 3, could he maintain his form in the finals.
In the mardave class Joshua Galbraith put in some super drives to take pole position in the final with Mike Simpson second, Paul Galbraith third.

Finals
In the mardave final Joshua Galbraith confidently built up and early lead over Mike Simpson and Jordan Galbraith, everything changed after lap 11 with Mike being involved in a coming together of cars and Joshua suffering a loss of power from his batteries forcing his retirement. Jordan Galbraith was quick to take advantage of the situation but could only hold onto the lead for a couple of laps before his dad Paul hit the front. The disaster struck for Jordan on lap 15 allowing Mike back up into second place and chasing down Paul for the lead. it was a very close finish with Paul winning 0.78 secons ahead of Mike. Whilst all the action was taking place at the front the fast improving Roy Matthews was putting in a very impressive and consistent drive and went on to take third place – well done Roy.

With just two cars finishing in the GT12 C final Steve Donald took the win ahead of Courtney Orme.

The B final was won by Chelle Snowden with Nick Wallace taking a fine second place and Matt Popejoy finishing third, Rob Hambridge just finishing ahead of Daniel Lacey who was again top driver in division 3.

In the A final Garry Kirkpatrick was in the lead from start to finish to take a fine win. It was very close for second and third places between Andrew Slingsby and Gavin Maciver, who despite a slow lap 3 challenged Andrew hard for second place. Andrew held on to the finish with Gavin third just 0.13 seconds adrift! Bob Harley was in 5th place and fastest in division 2.

A good evening, only two more weeks left in the league now.

05-07-16 Summer League Round 7

Louis Parker qualifies on pole position but Gavin Maciver wins a great A Final
Bob Harley wins the B Final ahead of Chelle Snowden and Matt Popejoy in a very close race
The C Final was won by Mike Simpson with visiting driver Steve Donald in second place
Mike Simpson wins the V12 Final with “Team Galbraith” taking the next three places

Track
An unusual track design this week not used for some time provided some excellent racing.

Qualifying
Gavin Maciver headed the qualifying after both the first and second rounds but Louis Parker had a super run in round 3 to take pole in the final with 33 laps, with Gavin, Darren Ford and David Simpson all on 32 laps.
Bob Harley took second place in division 2 with 30 laps and Matt Popejoy was third a further lap down.
Daniel Lacey continued his unbeaten run in division 3 with 30 laps and seventh position overall, Courtney Orme was second with 21 laps.

In the mardave class Mike Simpson was in top form winning all three qualifying rounds with 25 laps, Paul Galbraith was second on the same lap with Joshua Galbraith and Nathan Marshall on 24 laps.

Finals
In the Mardave final Mike Simpson made a good start from pole position followed by Paul Galbraith, Nathan Marshall moved up to third place past Joshua Galbraith and they swapped positions three times in the first seven laps before Josh got the upper hand and got away from Nathan. Mike was steadily increasing his lead until lap 8 where grip rolled his car allowing Paul to move within a second (no DRS here though!). Another roll on lap 16 and Paul was in the lead with Jordan Galbraith also moving into third spot. A slow lap 19 by Paul let Mike retake the lead and Joshua move back up into third place, a good race to the finish saw Mike win, Paul second, Joshua third and Jordan in fourth place. The league positions are now very close and the last three rounds should prove to be very interesting.

Mike was out again in the GT12 C final and won with Steve Donald in second place and Alister hart third.

The B final was very closely fought with Bob Harley putting in an excellent performance to win ahead of Chelle Snowden, Matt Popejoy who had the quickest lap and Daniel Lacey – all these drivers finished on the same lap with only a few seconds separating them all. Well done to Daniel who look set to gain promotion to division 2.

Everyone was expecting a fantastic A final and they were treated to some excellent racing. Louis Parker made a clean start from pole position with Gavin Maciver hot on his heels and Darren Ford chasing them both. An almost faultless display from all three of these drivers, Louis managing to keep ahead of Gavin who pressed hard and on lap 21 got to the front. The roles were reversed now but Gavin held on and at the finish was 2 seconds ahead of Louis to win, Darren finished third just 5 seconds down. A really exciting race to watch this!

28-06-16 Summer league Round 6

Qualifying
Gavin Maciver dominated the qualifying heats with some fast and accurate driving, being two laps up on second place driver Matt Popejoy and a further lap ahead of Bob Harley, Nick Wallace and Chelle Snowden. Gavin set the fastest lap and his average lap time of 10.14 seconds was better than everyone else’s best lap – Bob Harley being next quickest at 10.17 seconds.

In the mardave class Mike Simpson won round 1, Jordan Galbraith round 2 and Paul Galbraith round 3 to take pole position in the final with Jordan second.

Track
Only five carpets wide this week but an interesting design.

Finals
The first final was the mardave class and what an exciting race it proved to be. Paul Galbraith started well from pole position on the grid followed by Jordan Galbraith and Mike Simpson, on lap 3 Mike moved up into second place and then took the lead on lap 19 . Jordan overtook his dad Paul on the next lap to move up into second place. A mistake by Mike let Paul back into the lead on lap 23 with Jordan right on his heels and then overtaking Paul on lap 25 to go to the front. On the penultimate lap 27 Paul took the lead once more and was first across the finishing line, Jordan was second and Mike third, just a couple of seconds between them all – good race!

In the GT12 C final some steady driving by Alister Hart gave him an easy win with Alwyn Hodges taking second place and Courtney Orme third after some mechanical problems with his car.

The GT12 B final was also a great race between Chelle Snowden, Dave Tomlinson and Daniel Lacey, all three drivers lapping at similar speeds with Chelle maintaining her advantage up to lap 23 when Dave Tomlinson took the lead with very little between all these three drivers. Chelle put in some fast laps in the closing stages of the race but could not quite catch Dave who held his nerve to take the win, Chelle was second and Daniel and excellent third.

In the A final Gavin Maciver had another storming race to lead from start to finish and equal his qualifying laps but just over a second quicker – well done Gavin.
Behind him there was an incredibly close race for second place between Matt Popejoy and Bob Harley, Matt just managed to retain his advantage of being second on the grid with very little between them, Bob closing the gap to 0.15 seconds on lap 29 but Matt went on to take second place by about 1.5 seconds in a nail biting finish, Bob being third.

21-06-16 Summer League Round 5

Another good evenings racing – see the results page for the full details.
This was the halfway point in the current league, remember it is the best eight from a possible ten scores to count for each driver.

14-06-16 Superleague Round 3

Qualifying
After the first round of qualifying Gavin Maciver was quickest, closely followed by Andrew Slingsby who was less than half a second adrift, Matt Popejoy was in third place just one lap down.
In round 2 Andrew managed an extra lap and moved ahead of Gavin with David Simpson moving up into third spot ahead of Matt.
Round 3 saw Gavin gain pole position for the final, Andrew consolidate second position and Darren Ford move up to third place with Matt fourth.
In the mardave class after round 2 Jordan Galbraith was the fastest, Joshua Galbraith second and some fine driving from Wes Wray moved him into third place with Paul Galbraith fourth.
In the final qualifying round Jordan increased his lead, Paul Galbraith moved into second position and Joshua Galbraith third – a trio of Galbraith’s at the top of the qualifying table!

Finals
Jordan took the lead from pole position on the grid with his dad Paul close behind, the positions were reversed on lap 11 when Paul went into the lead and despite severe pressure for Jordan he managed to hold on for a win, Jordan taking second place and Mike Simpson third. This makes it two weeks in a row that Paul has won the final, Jordan was in fighting mood afterwards and heard to say “another lap and I would have had him” – lets see what happens next week.

The GT12 B final saw an easy win for fast improving Daniel Lacey, there was a good race for second place between Mike Simpson and David Snowden with David eventually finishing five seconds ahead of Mike. it was good to see Alister Hart racing again and take a fine fourth place.

The GT12 A final was a fast, close race between Gavin Maciver, Andrew Slingsby and Darren Ford, David Simpson was in the mix for a time but a loose connection on his transponder meant he only recorded three laps.
Gavin was in the lead from start to finish but Andrew was never more than a couple of seconds behind to finish in second place. Darren Ford had a tremendous race, setting the fastest lap and finishing third just less than a second behind Andrew, Matt Popejoy took fourth place.

Half way through the superleague now with just rounds in August, October and December remaining, the best five scores from a possible six to count for each driver.

07-06-16 Summer League Round 4

Gavin Maciver scores maximum points in the GT12 Class
Darren Ford maintains the pressure on league 2 leader Matt Popejoy
Club Chairman Rob Hambridge storms to victory in the C Final
Jordan Galbraith cracks under pressure as his dad Paul snatches victory in the Mardave Final

Track

Qualifying
Gavin Maciver was yet again the driver to beat in the GT12 class with a fine win in round 1, David Simpson won round 2 to head the qualifiers but Gavin responded in round 3 with a better time to take pole position in the final. Chelle Snowden was third, Darren Ford was fourth and best in division 2 chasing another maximum points very closely followed by Matt Popejoy and Bob Harley. Visiting driver Javier Jimenez managed a creditable seventh overall.
Daniel Lacey was top qualifier in division 3 with his new car, David Snowden was second a lap down on Daniel.
In the mardave class Jordan Galbraith was in top form and with some impressive driving won all three qualifying rounds and looked favourite for a convincing win in the final. Mike Simpson was second and Paul Galbraith experiencing problems with his car in rounds one and two got everything together in round three to take third position overall.

Before the finals the trophies for the Winter League were presented by Rob Hambridge, congratulations to the winners.

Finals
In the mardave final Jordan Galbraith made an excellent start from pole followed by Mike Simpson and Paul Galbraith, an incident on lap 2 enabled Paul to take the lead but Jordan soon reeled him in and regained the lead once again on 5. A good race then ensued with Jordan establishing a good lead then Paul getting the gap down to about 1 second by lap 17 to put a bit of pressure on Jordan. We were all treated to an incredibly exciting finish with Paul gaining over 2 seconds on Jordan on the penultimate lap to be first over the line by 0.22 seconds. A super result for team Galbraith, well done Paul.

The GT12 C final saw a great drive from the clubs chairman Rob Hambridge who was in the lead from start to finish leaving it to David Snowden and Mike Simpson to battle it out for second and third places. The two drivers were evenly matched with David being slightly quicker but unable to regain the second place he lost to Mike on lap 1.

Bob Harley starting from pole in the B Final was in sparkling form to take a convincing win over a lap ahead of second place driver Nick Wallace. Javier Jimenez on his first visit to the club took third place with his best lap being slightly quicker than Nick’s.

The A Final was run at a very fast pace with Gavin Maciver off to a good start from pole and being chased hard by David Simpaon and Chelle Snowden. David was about half a second down until a racing incident on lap 13 put him out of contention. Chelle took up the chase but could not make up any ground on Gavin who in the end had a comfortable win on 32 laps, Chelle was second on 31 and a superb drive from Darren Ford earned him third place. A great race to watch.

31-05-16 Summer League Round 3

A fast track this evening produced some very close races, Paul Galbraith was the fastest qualifier in the club mardave class with a photo finish in round 3 winning by 1/100th of a second from Mike Simpson.
In the GT12 class Gavin Maciver was the top qualifier followed by Darren Ford with a superb performance to take second overall, Chelle Snowden being third and Nick Wallace fourth.
Daniel Lacey continued his good run by being the best in division 3.

The mardave final was very close with Paul Galbraith starting from pole position on the grid only to find himself in last place by the end of the first lap. Jordan Galbraith took the lead with Mike Simpson and Joshua Galbraith trying to catch him. After four minutes it was Mike who was leading but Jordan was lapping faster but just could not quite catch and overtake Mike – it was very close though with just 0.14 seconds separating them at the end with Joshua finishing third also on the same lap.

David Snowden had an excellent race in the GT12 C final to win, Courtney Orme in his new Ore car was two laps down.

The GT12 B final was fast and furious, Matt Popejoy was the fastest but Bob Harley took the win with a great drive, Matt was second, Dave Tomlinson third and Daniel Lacey fourth to give him yet another maximum points in division 3.

An excellent GT12 A final to complete the evenings racing in which Darren Ford gave Gavin Maciver a good run for his money with some sparkling driving. Gavin drove an almost faultless race to win, Darren was second and Chelle Snowden took third place. Good stuff!
