29-07-14 Summer League Round 3

Three drivers score maximum league points this week!

Club Mardave Class

Richard Parker returned to top form with a motor and bearing change after trailing Mike Simpson in the first two qualifying rounds to win the third round, take pole position in the “A” final and win by two laps for a maximum 41 points.

In division 2 Joshua Galbraith drove well to also add 41 points for the week.

GT12 Class

Visiting driver David Hall showed everyone the way and Daniel Williams was again in great form to finish second behind David in both the qualifying and “A” final for a maximum 41 league points which extended his lead to 10 points over Dave Tomlinson in second place.

22-07-14 Summer League Round 2

What a fantastic evenings racing!

Four six minute qualifying heats and an eight minute final making thirty two minutes on the track for everyone – plus the most exciting final of the year so far.

Club Chairman presented the Spring League Trophies to the winners in each class.

Track

Another Dave Tomlinson design this week.

Qualifying

Mike Simpson was the top qualifier in the Mardave Class with  31 laps, Callum Ward took second place on 27 and Richard Parker third also with 27 laps.

In the GT12 class Dave Tomlinson achieved a tremendous 34 laps to take pole position ahead of Daniel Williams with 33 laps and Nick Bruty 31.

Finals

Mike Simpson had a good run in the final setting the fastest lap time of 11.55 seconds and having a comfortable win on 39 laps, another excellent drive from Callum Ward to be second, three laps down and maintain his challenge in division 2.

The last race of the evening was the GT12 final, Dave Tomlinson led the field away from pole position and built up a slight lead with Daniel Williams and Chelle Snowden chasing him. An incredible battle for the lead developed with Daniel hitting the front on lap 27 only to see Dave get past him the following lap and re-take the lead.  We were then treated to three minutes of wheel to wheel racing, Daniel setting the fastest lap of 10.12 seconds and with a few seconds to go Dave seemed to have the race in the bag, but Daniel slipped by to win by 7/10ths of a second, both drivers on 44 laps with Chelle taking third with 42.

What an incredible race – it does not get much better than this!

15-07-14 Summer League Round 1

This was the first week of the new league which runs for eight weeks with the drivers best six scores to count. Points are awarded for both qualifying and final positions in each division, 20 for best qualifier, 19 for second, 18 for third etc and similar in the finals plus an extra point for the best in each division.  ie a maximum score of 41 points for a driver being both best qualifier and top in the finals.

Club Mardave Class

Mike Simpson was top qualifier with Paul Galbraith second, in division 2 there was great competition between Callum Ward and Jenson Butlin to take the fastest qualifier spot in division 2 with Callum getting the upper hand in rounds 2 and 3 by just a few seconds.

In the finals Paul Galbraith got off to a good start and was leading for most of the race, however his car appeared to slow down slightly in the latter part of the race and Mike Simpson was first across the finishing line.

Another close battle in division 2 but Callum Ward eventually had a comfortable win by 2 laps over Jenson Burtlin with Joshua Galbraith taking third place.

GT12 Class

David Simpson got off to a good start by winning round 1, but was bettered by Darren Ford in round 2 only to be beaten by the best qualifying performance in round 3 by Daniel Williams. Three rounds and three different winners!

So Daniel led off from pole position on the grid in the final followed by Darren. A fast and furious race with a few spills along the way followed and Darren won by 2 laps, setting the fastest lap time on the way. Daniel also had a great drive to finish second with Dave Tomlinson third a further lap behind.

08-07-14 July Clubnight

An ordinary clubnight this week before the start of the summer league, a smaller four carpets wide track design was very fast with a lot more grip than the previous week and provided some high speed racing.

Club Mardave Class

Richard Parker was in unbeatable form in the qualifying heats with Mike Simpson second, Paul Galbraith third and Jenson Butlin in fourth position.

It was a different story in the final with the wheels coming off (literally) for Richard which resulted in a retirement and very close race, the lead changed several times before Mike was first over the line just five seconds ahead of Paul Galbraith with Jenson Butlin taking third place three laps down.

GT12 Class

Louis Parker had his car set up well this week and was really flying round the track, taking the top qualifier spot and pole position in the final. Dave Tomlinson was second with Darren Ford and Daniel Williams also putting in great performances.

The final was spectacular to watch with all the cars on the track at high speed, Daniel Williams had a great drive and won, being a clear lap ahead of second place driver Darren Ford and Louis Parker in third – a super race, well done Daniel.

01-07-14 Spring League Round 8

In the GT12 Class Daniel Williams was the League winner with some consistently good driving throughout the rounds, Winter League winner Dave Tomlinson was second and Bob Harley third.

Best Junior driver once again was Louis Parker who was fourth place overall.
