27-05-14 Spring League Round 4

Track
A very testing track layout this week with a very narrow twisty section in the middle coupled to a long fast straight caused a few problems for some of drivers.

Mardave Class

Richard Parker was again in unbeatable form winning all the qualifiers and the final with 28 laps, Mike Simpson was second and now leads division 1.

In division 2 Joshua Galbraith and Jenson Butlin had yet another very close result, by winning the final Joshua reduced Jensons lead in the league to just a single point.

GT12 Class

The very tight track meant that there was not a great difference in lap times to the mardaves, in the end after some very close racing experience prevailed with Dave Tomlinson winning a very close final and Bob Harley second with the fastest lap being set by Daniel Williams. All the first four drivers achieved 29 laps.

Spring League Round 3

Richard Parker is fastest qualifier in the Mardave class but Lee Bishop wins the final once again

Jenson Butlin takes the lead in Division 2

Daniel Williams storms to victory in the GT12 class

Four qualifying rounds and an eight minute final on a smaller 4 carpet wide track this week for a change meant some very short laptimes and a driving error resulting in a lot of ground being lost.

Mardave Class

Richard Parker returning after a two week break set the pace right from the first race and was fastest qualifier, Mike Simpson was second after a good run in the fourth qualifying round, pushing Lee Bishop down into third place.  Jenson Butlin was in top form being the fastest driver in division 2.

The final developed into a close race between Richard and Lee with Mike dropping back through the field having used a part discharged battery!  Lee was the winner with Richard second, both drivers on 49 laps.  Another fine drive from Jenson Butlin saw him finish third and displacing Joshua Galbraith at the head of division 2.

GT12 Class

Some very competitive racing with the first three drivers in qualifying all achieving 39 laps. Daniel Williams in his new car was really flying and took pole position for the final, Dave Tomlinson was second just three seconds back and Darren Ford third third by a similar margin. The fastest lap time of 7.15 seconds was set by Louis Parker who was fourth on 38 laps.

This set the scene for a great final and we were not to be disappointed!  The evening belonged to Daniel who lapped everyone else in the race at least twice to score 53 laps, Louis was second, Dave third and Darren fourth all with 51 laps.

Dave Tomlinson now leads the league, Darren Ford is in second position and Bob Harley drops down to third place.  Five more rounds left so it promises to be a very close thing – can Daniel catch the leaders?

Spring League Round 2

Lee continues to rule the Mardave Division 1

Joshua Galbraith leads division 2

Bob Harley hits the top of the GT12 class

Track

Mardaves

Lee Bishop was the winner yet again this week, in the qualifying Mike Simpson and Paul Galbraith were fighting for second place with only 0.15 seconds separating them but being a full two laps behind Lee.

Jenson Butlin gained two points on Joshua Galbraith, but Josh still leads division 2 by a single point – what will happen in the next round?

Come on all you mardave drivers let’s try and give Lee a good run for his money next week!

GT12

David Simpson was the fastest qualifier but failed to start in the final due to problems with his car. Bob Harley is the new league leader after a tremendous drive in the final, finishing on 45 laps to win by a margin of two laps from second place driver Darren Ford.

Spring League Round 1

Lee Bishop hits the top again in the Club Mardave Class

David Simpson wins the GT12 class

Time allowed an extra final round this for those with batteries charged, this was only a practice and did not count towards the league points

Track

Another Dave Tomlinson design track this week.

Mardave Class

Lee Bishop was in sparkling form once again and was top qualifier, it was very close though with Paul Galbraith second and Mike Simpson third – all drivers being on 34 laps.

Lee had another good drive in the final to win ahead of Mike and Paul.

In division 2 Joshua Galbraith was the fastest qualifier with 30 laps, just ahead of Jenson Butlin also with 30.

Joshua improved to 31 laps in the final to beat Jenson who got 30.

GT12 Class

The pace in the GT12 class was quick and David Simpson was the best qualifier achieving a tremendous 39 laps with Dave Tomlinson second and Daniel Williams driving a borrowed car for the first time in third place, both drivers getting 37 laps.

The final was much closer, David won again with 38 laps closely followed by Dan also with 38 laps and Chelle Snowden on 37.  Dave Tomlinson was well placed up to lap 15 when a mechanical problem forced his retirement from the race.

A good start to the league – remember it a drivers best 6 scores from a possible 8 to count.
