Winter League Round 3

Tuesday 18th February

Qualifying

Dave Tomlinson took the top qualifier position with 38 laps with David Simpson and Daniel Willliams in second and third positions respectively just 1 lap down.

In division 2 Lee Bishop was again in excellent form with 36 laps, being fourth overall qualifier  for the second week running, Paul Galbraith was three laps behind on 33 and Jenson Butlin third with 31 laps.

Joshua Galbraith, Selina Woods and Courtney Orme keenly contested division 3 with all of them managing 29 laps.

Track

A four carpets wide track again this week with a very fast section.

Finals

Joshua Galbraith took a 7 point lead in division 3 with some great driving in the “B” final achieving 41 laps which was 1 lap better than an “in form” Courtney Orme managed in the “C” final. Roy Matthews the joint leader at the start of the evening had a motor pinion come loose on lap 19 which forced a retirement.

In division 2 Lee Bishop had an excellent drive to be top driver and third overall with 50 laps and third place in the “A” final. Paul Galbraith could not quite match this but still got a very creditable 46 laps followed by Jenson Butlin with 32.

The climax of the evenings racing was the “A” final and what a race it turned out to be!  Dave Tomlinson started from pole position followed by David Simpson and Lee Bishop.  Dave built up a slight lead but David Simpson eventually caught him up and everyone was treated to several minutes of high speed wheel to wheel racing at lap times of around 9 seconds.  A couple of minor errors from Dave gave David chances to take the lead, but when he did a mistake let Dave through and he held on to win by 1/10th of a second on 51 laps.  Behind the leaders Lee Bishop and Daniel Williams were fighting it out for third place, Lee got the upper hand, both drivers achieving 50 laps.

This was without doubt the best race seen so far this year – can it get any better than this?

Winter League Round 2

Tuesday 11th February 2014

The winter league resumed with round 2 this week, Darren Ford dominated the qualifying and achieved 38 laps which was two laps better than anyone else. A resurgent Lee Bishop stormed into second place overall qualifying with some great driving in heat 2 with Richard Parker third and Dave Tomlinson fourth.

Paul Galbraith drove well to be second in division 2 and a fine performance from Jenson Butlin earned him third place.

Division 3 is very competitive at the moment, Joshua Galbaith was top qualifier followed by Roy Matthews and Selina Woods.

Track Layout

Finals

In the finals Josh was the best in division 3 giving him a maximum 41 points, Roy second and Courtney Orme third.

Lee Bishop continued his good form by taking fourth place in the “A” final to be top division 2 driver and score maximum points, Paul Galbraith was second and Robert Hambridge third.

Darren Ford led the “A” final from pole position achieving the fastest lap of the evening at 8.87 seconds and seemed to have the race in the bag until lap 44 where disaster struck and forced his retirement from the race. Richard Parker took full advantage of the opportunity to win. There was a very close battle for second place between Daniel Williams and Dave Tomlinson with Daniel crossing the finishing line just 1/10th second ahead of Dave – that was close!

After two rounds Richard leads division 1, Dave Tomlinson is second and Louis Parker third.

Paul Galbraith is the leader in division 2, Jenson Butlin is second and Jack Cook third – they all better watch out for Lee Bishop after his performance this week.

Roy Matthews and Joshua Galbraith have equal points at the top of division 3, I expect a close contest between these two drivers as the league progresses, Kevin Flamson is in third place.

Clubnight incl GT12 class

Tuesday 4th February 2014

This was the second of the two planned trial weeks running a GT12 Class in addition to the usual Mardave Class.

Daniel Williams was the top qualifier in the Mardaves with Richard Parker second, both drivers getting 32 laps, Mike Simpson was third on 31.
In the GT 12 class Lee Speight, David Statham and Michelle Snowden were very quick and achieved 36 laps each with Louis Parker and Bob Harley on 34.
Classes were combined for the finals, Daniel was the only Mardave class driver to make the “A” final in which Lee Speight had a very impressive race to win on 36 laps, Michelle, Bob and David Statham finished second, third and fourth respectively on 35 laps – an exciting race.

Clubnight including GT12 Class

Tuesday 28th January 2014 – Clubnight including GT12 Class

There were fifteen Mardave and seven GT12 cars for the first trial week including the GT12 class, the track layout had a twisty infield coupled with a fast section.

In the Mardave class Dave Tomlinson was the fastest qualifier with 29 laps, just 0.16 seconds faster than David Simpson with Daniel Williams third with 28 laps.

The GT12 leader was David Statham who achieved 30 laps despite having to contend with some slower cars in the race, Dave Tomlinson was second with 29 laps and a good drive from Michelle Snowden assured her of third place on 28 laps.

The classes were combined for the finals, which were reduced to 5 minutes duration due to time constraints.

Louis Parker won the “C” final with 20 laps, Joshua Galbraith was second on 18 and Roy Matthews took third place with 17 laps.

The “B” final was a very close race between Richard Parker and Paul Galbraith, Richard was first to the finish just 3 seconds ahead of Paul with Louis Parker third in his GT12.

Well done to Richard for managing to prepare and keep going a total of 4 cars during the evening!

Last up was the “A” Final where the GT12 drivers dominated, David Statham drove an excellent race to win with 27 laps, Dave Tomlinson took second with 25, Michelle Snowden was third on 24, just 5 seconds ahead of Daniel Williams who was the only Mardave driver to make the top 5 places.

Tuesday 14th January 2014 – Winter League Round 1

The start of the first league for 2014 saw Louis Parker get off to a flying start winning the “A” final after qualifying in second position behind his dad Richard.  Louis and Dave Tomlinson were the only drivers to manage sub ten second laps in the final, Dave eventually finishing two seconds behind Louis, Richard took third place with just over two seconds difference between the top three what a great final!

Paul Galbraith scored maximum points in division 2 with some very impressive lap times, Nick Wallace was second with Jack Cook and Jenson Butlin sharing third place.

Division 3 produced another very close final with the first three drivers separated by less than three seconds. The consistent driving of Roy Matthews earned him maximum points with Joshua Galbraith second with some very quick laps and Kevin Flamson third.  An excellent start to the league for Joshua, watch out for him in the remaining rounds!

Tuesday 7th January 2014 – Final Round of 2013 Autumn League

The New Year commenced with the final round of the 2013 Autumn League on a track layout which included a long fast section coupled with a tight and twisty infield.  Louis Parker was in tremendous form being a lap faster than anyone else in qualifying and duly winning the “A” final.  Dave Tomlinson also had a great evening finishing second behind Louis, Daniel Williams was third fastest in qualifying but was pushed down to fourth place in the finals by Richard Parker who had a brilliant drive in the “B” final.

Richard Parker was the Division 1 league winner scoring 234 points, Daniel Williams was second with 219 and despite a great finish Louis could not catch Daniel and was third on 215 points.

Bob Harley also had his car going well and took maximum points in Division 2 followed by Paul Galbraith and Michelle Snowden who were second and third respectively.

In the end it was a very close result, Michelle Snowden was the division 2 winner with 238 points, followed by Bob Harley with 236 points and Paul Galbraith taking third place on 222.

In division 3 Josh Galbraith left everyone else for dust to score maximum points, Roy Matthews was second in both qualifying and finals.  Courtney Orme was third in qualifying but a disaster in the final gave Alwyn Hodges third place.

Roy Matthews was the division 3 winner with 240 points, Courtney second with 222 and Alwyn in third place on 211.

XMAS Fun Night

Tuesday 17th December – XMAS Fun Night

The fun evening to end the year started with two rounds of projector racing which as usual proved to a bit tricky driving your car looking at an image of the track from a multimedia projector.  Louis Parker was best in round 1 with 33 laps, 3 laps ahead of Darren Ford in second place.

To make even more of a challenge round 2 was run in an anticlockwise direction, this seemed to suit Daniel Williams who achieved a magnificent 34 laps with Louis on 33.

A round of ordinary racing was next with Daniel winning yet again on 44 laps, with Louis 43.

The track was then rearranged for the ever popular “musical carpets”. This was keenly contested, the final three left on the track were last years winner Jenson Butlin, Lewis Davies and Richard Parker.  Richard was eliminated next round so the final head to head was between Lewis and Jenson with Lewis just managing to get to the single mat first and win.

The final event of the evening was football. Two teams captained by Louis Parker and Jenson Butlin took part using two sets of goals.

This was very entertaining to watch, Louis took the lead with an early goal but the result at full time was 2 goals each, meaning a penalty shoot out was required to determine the winner.

Goals were very difficult to score and the goalkeeping was good, it was Daniel Williams who sealed the match for Jenson’s team with a very unorthodox style of driving his car backwards at the ball and scoring a great goal. No one else could match this despite Louis’s team having the ball in the net twice, both goals being disallowed.

Prizes were presented to Lewis, Jenson and Richard for the musical carpets and to Alwyn Hodges for the best presented caravan of the evening complete with an array of flashing lights.

A two week break in racing now for Christmas and New year, the 2014 season starts on Tuesday 7th January with the final round of the current league– time for everyone to get their cars in peak condition.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, looking forward to another great years racing in 2014.

Superleague 2013 Final Round

Tuesday 10rd December – Superleague 2013 Final round

Richard, Michelle and Roy are League champions

A very exciting finish to this years superleague especially in division 1 where Dave Tomlinson had a two point advantage over Louis Parker for second place at the start of the evening.  Darren Ford was the driver to beat being fastest qualifier and winning the “A” final, with Richard Parker already having the league won the focus was back on Louis and Dave.  Louis had the upper hand and gained second places in both the qualifying and final to Dave Tomlinson’s fourth places.  This gave Louis a four point advantage on the evening, however with only the best 5 from a possible 6 rounds to count Dave was able discount his worst score of 28 to Louis’s 31 which made an overall gain of just a single point for Louis, hence Dave was second with 178 and Louis third 177 —– close!!!!

Bob Harley took a maximum points score in division 2, also making the “A” final and winning the “who will be the best placed driver using a yellow bodyshell” by beating Mike Simpson.  Michelle Snowden was second position and won the league division 2, another good performance by Jenson Butlin assured him of second place in the league – well done Jenson. Bob Harley finished in third place.

Roy Matthews was top qualifier in division 3 with Courtney Orme second and Alwyn Hodges third, Courtney came out on top in the “C” final ahead of Roy and Alwyn. Roy wins division 3 with Courtney second and Alwyn third.

Autumn League Round 7

Tuesday 3rd December – Autumn League Round 7 – Richard back at the top

Darren Ford was the top qualifier of the evening, only for his car to break down after 14 laps in the final, which resulted in him finishing in last place.  Richard Parker had the fastest lap time in the final, winning with Louis Parker second, reversing the order from last week.  Daniel Williams also encountered some problems with his car allowing Mike Simpson to snatch third place. Richard has the division 1 league title in the bag but Daniel and Louis will have to fight it out for second and third places in the final round.

Division 2 saw a repeat of last week with Michelle Snowden take maximum points, Bob Harley and Paul Galbraith having another close race with Bob taking second place and also setting the best lap time.

In division 3 Roy Matthews took maximum points and displaced Courtney Orme as league leader.  Courtney finished second and Alwyn Hodges third, this also being their respective league positions.  It should be an exciting final round as a good performance from Selina Woods could see her move into the top three.
