David Simpson achieved maximum points for the second
consecutive week to win division 1, Lee Bishop was also in top form finishing
second in both qualifying and the final, but Dave Tomlinson took the league division
1 second place.
Division 2 driver of the evening was Colin Butlin who was in
the “A” final after the qualifying rounds and was fastest in the final. The league division 2 results went down to
the wire with Glyn Butlin eventually winning from Michelle Snowden.
Cameron Summers was the fastest qualifier in division 3 but
Alwyn Hodges was the highest place division 3 driver in the “C” final which was
won by Louis Parker.
Final League Positions were:-
Division 1 Division 2 Division 3
323 David Simpson 323 Glyn Butlin 324
Cameron Summers
292 Dave Tomlinson 303 Michelle Snowden 303 Alwyn Hodges
288 Mike Simpson 282 Louis Parker 288 Jenson Butlin
David Simpson displaced Dave Tomlinson from the top spot in
division 1 after being the evening’s fastest qualifier and also winning the “A”
final. It was a good night for team
Simpson with Mike taking second place in both cases. The outstanding performance of the evening came from Michelle
Snowden who after a tremendous drive in round 3 made it into the “A”
final. It all went wrong in the final
however when the wheels came off (a tyre actually) resulting in the loss of
several laps and her lead in division 2.
Will she be looking for a new pit crew before the final round of the
current league next week?
Cameron Summers had yet
another maximum points in division 3.
Next week will be the final
round so I am sure that we will be in for a very exciting evening.
Things are getting really exciting in the league, Division 1 leader Dave Tomlinson had his lead reduced to just three points after a succession of problems with his car compounded by an uncharacteristic failure of his transponder. David Simpson was fastest qualifier and seemed to have the A final in the bag when Lee Bishop came through to win in the last minute. Another great performance from Robert Hambridge in the B final made him third fastest division 1 driver in the finals.
Division 2 was very tight, Colin Butlin took maximum points, being fastest qualifier and winning the B final. Glyn Butlin starting from second place on the grid could only manage fourth place in the final behind Michelle Snowden and Louis Parker. This means that Glyn and Michelle are now tied for the division 2 lead on 302 points.
Cameron Summers sealed the Division 3 winners spot by taking maximum points.
With two more rounds remaining this is the closest league for several years, drivers scores in the last two rounds will decide the winning positions in both Division 1 and Division 2.
Dave Tomlinson was the driver in form being fastest qualifier and going on to win a closely contested final to take maximum points for the evening hence extending his lead in division 1 to eight points.
Glyn Butlin had a similar result in division 2, which means
he is the new leader in that division displacing Michelle Snowden down to
second place just a single point behind.
Cameron Summers was fastest qualifier in division 3, in the
final a great performance by new member Craig Timbrell put him three laps ahead
of the field. Cameron still retains the
leading place in the division.
After several weeks of trying Robert
Hambridge was back in the “A” final with much improved form. Could it be a
coincidence that he with borrowed some batteries of Richard Parker, maybe Santa
needs to make a late delivery before next week!
Another very competitive evening,
Colin Butlin had a storming race in round 1 to be second fastest qualifier
behind David Simpson. Dave Tomlinson
was also on top form and after the three rounds of qualifying took second place
on the “A” final grid just 0.68 seconds slower than David.
Division 2 qualifying was
dominated by team Butlin with Glyn bettering Colins time by 0.67 seconds, the
ever consistent Michelle Snowden was not far off the pace to take third
position on the grid.
Cameron Summers was fastest
qualifier in division 3 by a good margin with Jenson Butlin second.
A mechanical problem meant that
Cameron was not able to line up for the “C” final which was easily won by Louis
Parker followed by Mathew Stones three laps down, Jenson Butlin was the best
placed division 3 driver.
In the “B” final slowest qualifier
Sam Woollett had a stunning drive to win, Colin Butlin was second and Michelle
third. Glyn Butlin finished in last place following technical difficulties
early in the race.
A clean start in the “A” final by
David Simpson put him in a commanding lead and the race was really for second
place between Dave Tomlinson, Mike Simpson and Richard Parker who had to make a
quick motor change before the race. David won with 58 laps but behind him it
could not have been much closer, the lead changed hands several times with Mike
crossing the line first ahead of Dave, both drivers with 56 laps and Richard
55.
See the
results page for the latest league positions, remember it is the best eight
from a possible ten round scores to count.
An
earlier than usual starting time of 6pm provided time to have four six minute
qualifying rounds plus a seven minute final.
Things
were very competitive as always, Lee Bishop set the pace in the first round
with 47 laps only to see Richard Parker better this by five laps in round 2
when the track offered a bit more grip. Richard also seemed to have round 3 in
the bag and eased off near the end of the race forgetting that Lee had started
2 seconds behind him and winning by 6/100th of a second! Both
drivers along with Mike Simpson finished on 52 laps.
The last
round of qualifying saw everyone going flat out to improve their position on
the finals grid, Lee somehow found another three laps scoring 55 with Richard
54 and Mike 52.
After
being refreshed with drinks, cakes, biscuits and mince pies it was time for the
finals.
The “C”
final saw Michelle Snowden win driving her three wheeled “plastic pig” to
victory in magnificent style, Jenson Butlin was a close second place just one
lap down and Alfie Tomlinson third a further four laps behind.
In the
“B” final Louis Parker, Dave Tomlinson Snr and Mathew Stones had a tremendous
race with the lead changing several times until Louis managed to pull clear of
the field. At the finish Louis was the winner with 52 laps, Dave second a full
three laps down and Mathew third on 46.
So only
the “A” final remained, the big question was could Richard Parker make it a
Parker family double by winning, bearing in mind that he had been fastest qualifier
on several occasions during 2011 and not won the final and this was the last
race of the year.
The race
got off to a clean start and the pace was fast and furious with the cars dicing
with one another at speed just inches apart for lap after lap. As the race
progressed Lee Bishops strategy of taking a two week long cruise in the
Caribbean to prepare for the race paid off as he broke clear of the field and
went on to win with 62 laps. Second was Mike Simpson on 61 laps and also
setting the fastest lap time, with Richard in third place with 60 laps.
What a
great evening to end 2011, all that remains is to wish all the clubs members a
happy new year and a successful 2012.
Robert Hambridge
proved to be the evening’s top “man with a van” with some neat driving in the
dark with his caravan in tow. His 39
laps were a full 7 ahead of the rest of the field, Cameron Summers claiming
second place on 32 laps just a few seconds ahead of David and Mike
Simpson. The majority of cars and
caravans were decked out with lighting, which looked very impressive when going
round the track. Alwyn Hodges won the
award for constructing the best caravan and Michelle Snowden was the runner–up.
There was a
short break whilst chip butties were served part way through the proceedings
along with “secret Santa” presents from under the Christmas tree. The final round 3 was for cars only and a
great time was had by all.
Daniel Williams set he pace in qualifying winning round
1 completing 50 laps, round 2 was won by Dave
Tomlinson, who also won round 3 by 2/100th second ahead of David Simpson in the closest finish of the evening
Glyn and Colin Butlin took
the first two places in division 2 with Michelle Snowden third
Cameron Summers was fastest
qualifier in division 3 with Alywn Hodges second and Jenson Butlin third
After a short break it was
time for the finals, in the “C” final disaster struck Cameron with an
electrical fault on his car and a fine drive by Mathew Stones saw him take an
impressive win with Alun Williams in second place.
The “B” final saw the two
Butlins go head to head with Colin coming out on top to win, Glyn was second
and Robert Hambridge third.
This just left the “A” final
where Dave Tomlinson made a good start from pole position but eventually David
Simpson took the lead to win by a clear three laps. A tremendous battle for
second place ensued with Dave Tomlinson winning through ahead of Mike Simpson
and Richard Parker, all three on 50 laps.
Club and BRCA affiliated
membership is now due, forms at race control, members renewing their membership
need to do so by Tuesday 13th December.
The last
round of this year’s superleague was held on 6th December, David
Simpson was in unstoppable form despite an electrical problem in round 1. Lee Bishop drove consistently well taking
second place in both qualifying and the A final. A much improved performance from Daniel Williams was rewarded by
third place finish in the A final.
In
division 2 it was a Butlin family challenge with Colin being fastest qualifier
and Glyn second, the positions being reversed in the final. Michelle Snowden took third in both cases.
This
meant the final league positions were as follows:-
Division
1
Winner David Simpson 204 points
Second Mike Simpson 188
Third Richard Parker 173
Fourth Daniel Williams 168
Division
2
Winner Michelle Snowden 194 points
Second Louis Parker 173 1st
Junior
Third Glyn Butlin 141
Fourth Ben Petchey 140 2nd
Junior
Fifth Alwyn Hodges 135
Sixth Cameron Summers 116 3rd
Junior
A fast track design with a
chicane had all the ingredients needed to providing a stern test of driving
skills. In division 1 the story was similar to last week with David Simpson
fastest qualifier just ahead of Lee Bishop and Richard Parker. In the final however Lee put in another fine
performance to win by a massive margin of three laps. Can Lee’s excellent run of form continue or will the rest of the
drivers catch up – we will have to wait for next weeks super league to find
out, no pressure Lee!!!!
Michelle Snowden extended her
lead in division 2 after a win in the B final ahead of Glyn Butlin.
Alun Williams won the D final
with a good drive and Cameron Summers retained his unbeaten record in division
3 with another maximum points score.
Yet another evening of
incredibly exciting and competitive racing during the three rounds of
qualifying heats and final. David Simpson was the fastest qualifier on 58 laps
closely followed by Lee Bishop 57 and Mike Simpson 56.
The “D” final was won by
Kevin Flamson with 39 laps, Ben Petchey chased him for most of the race to
finish second four laps down ahead of Alwyn Hodges 31.
The “C” final saw Lewis
Burman and Cameron Summers go head to head, Lewis eventually winning with 48
laps just one lap better than Cameron.
Daniel Williams had an easy
win in the “B” final scoring 53 laps, a fine drive by Louis Parker earned him
second place on 50 laps ahead of Colin and Glyn Butlin.
Last race of the evening was
the “A” final; which was a very close thing with some very entertaining high
speed racing. David Simpson started from pole position on the grid but Lee
Bishop was the eventual winner with in form Richard Parker second and David
third all on 57 laps.
The annual general meeting
was held on Tuesday 15th November, it was good to see so many
members attending and making a positive contribution with their ideas for the
effective running of the club.
Following the meeting there
was time for three qualifying rounds of racing with nine minute long heats in
round three.
Lee Bishop was driving very
tidily and was the fastest qualifier after two rounds, in the last round
however Richard Parker was chased him for most of the race, finally overtaking
to win with Lee second just a couple of second behind.
A very fast track design
placed a premium on taking the correct line around the corners to keep up the
speed whilst avoiding any spills that would result in being a lap down.
The qualifying saw David
Simpson and Richard Parker evenly matched, both drivers completed 56 laps with
David the faster by 0.15 seconds. Lee Bishop and Daniel Williams were well
placed each on 55 laps.
If you thought that was close
it had nothing on heat two where Colin and Glyn Butlin diced for the lead right
to the finish line which Colin crossed first just 1/100th second
ahead of Glyn – you can’t get any closer than that.
The “C” final was won by
Louis Parker, Cameron Summers was second and Ignacio Barron Viela third.
Colin Butlin won the “B”
final, Robert Hambridge took second place and Glyn Butlin was third.
David Simpson started on pole
and kept in front of Richard Parker to score 60 laps, winning by a lap, Mike
Simpson put in a good performance to claim third position a further lap back.
The fish and chips were first
class – thanks Stacey for organizing everything.
Another great evenings racing
saw the return of Lee Bishop who had not raced for a few weeks, but the star
performer was Dave Tomlinson who won the “A” final after starting in second
position on the grid behind fastest qualifier Mike Simpson. Michelle Snowden had another convincing win
in the “B” final and Cameron Summers won the “C” final followed to the finish
line by Alwyn Hodges and Ben Petchey.
This was the first round of
the new winter league which will run through to the end of January 2012. Some
excellent racing took place, the quickest laps of the evening in both
qualifying the heats and finals were set by Richard Parker. The races were very close with David Simpson
taking maximum points in division 1 closely followed by Richard and Daniel
Williams. Michelle Snowden also had
maximum points in division 2 ahead of Glyn Butlin and Louis Parker. In division 3 Cameron Summers retained his
good form to win from Alwyn Hodges.
With only the final round to
come after this a good result was important to be in position to win a trophy
at the end of the year. The outstanding
performance of the evening was by Louis Parker who qualified in 5th
position to take a place in the “A” final.
Cameron Summers again won the
“C” final with Ben Petchey putting in a good drive to take second place ahead
of Alun Williams.
The “B” final was exciting to
watch, Michelle Snowden had qualified on pole and managed to stay ahead of a
very fast Robert Hambridge who was struggling with worn tyres on his car. Kevin Flamson was third a full 5 laps down.
The “A” final was a team
Simpson / Parker challenge, David Simpson was on pole but Mike took an early
lead after managing to avoid a coming together of the other cars. The pace was fast and furious, David taking
the lead after 1 minute with both Richard and Louis going well. Three minutes into the race disaster struck
with Richard Parkers car grinding to a halt with an electrical failure, Louis
was going well and chasing Daniel Williams and eventually got past near the end
of the race to take a magnificent third position. David won and Mike was second just a couple of seconds
behind. Well done Louis!
The final round of this years
summer league was held on 4th October, after the qualifying heats
Mike Simpson was top qualifier having battled with Richard Parker who won the
first race. Excellent performances by Michelle Snowden and Louis Parker put
them both in the “A” final. Cameron
Summers was fastest in division 3.
The “C” final was duly won by
Cameron with the ever consistent Alwyn Hodges second.
The “B” final saw Robert
Hambridge take a comfortable win in his new car ahead of Kevin Flamson.
The “A” final got off to a
good start and Louis had a storming drive to take the lead, eventually Mike
Simpson and Richard Parker came through and were evenly matched throughout the
whole race, Mike winning by one second.
Michelle also put on a dazzling display of driving to take third place a
full lap ahead of Daniel Williams who once more set the fastest lap time.
Final league positions are as
follows:-
Division 1 Division 2 Division 3
320 David Simpson 320 Michelle Snowden 313 Alwyn Hodges
305 Mike Simpson 264 Louis Parker 287 Jenson Butlin
291 Daniel Williams 236 Alun Williams 281 Cameron
Summers

Racing with a difference took
place on Tuesday 27th September, the lighting in the hall was
switched off and everyone had to rely on their cars lighting systems to see the
way. Several members had made a
tremendous effort to prepare their cars, sidelights, headlights, indicators,
rear lights and reversing lights being fitted.
The track design was kept
simple and it was surprising how everyone coped with the restricted vision. The
trophy for best prepared car was awarded to Michelle Snowden with Louis Parker
being runner up.
A green glow was seen moving
around the track in heat 2, no it wasn’t a ghost but Lee Bishop with a coloured
glow stick fastened to his car in place of lights!
There were a few minor
casualties in the qualifying heats but all cars were intact for the
finals. There were trophies for the
leading drivers in each division, David Statham won division 1, Louis Parker
division 2 and Cameron Summers division 3.
What a great evening, the
format will be repeated at the Christmas fun night but this time racing
caravans! Time soon goes so get started
with constructing your caravans and lighting systems.
Only one more round to go
after this, a fine performance from David Simpson has assured him the league 1
title, and similarly in leagues 2 and 3 Michelle Snowden and Alwyn Hodges
cannot be caught. Some of the other
places may yet change so look forward to an exciting last round.
Another maximum points for
David Simpson resulted in him extending his lead in division 1, Richard Parker
was second fastest qualifier but in the final Lee Bishop put in a good
performance to finish second.
Michelle Snowden was fastest
qualifier and took pole position in the division 2 final, however Louis Parker
won the final reducing Michelle’s league lead by one point.
A great performance from Ben
Petchey gained him the division 3 top qualifier spot. He could only manage fourth place in the final however, Cameron
Summers was the winner followed by Alwyn Hodges.
With eight of the ten rounds
completed the scene is set for an exciting climax as only the drivers eight
best scores will count for league positions, so the final two rounds will allow
bad scores to be discounted.
A return to Mardave racing by
David Statham saw him take second place on the “A” final grid behind David
Simpson. They had a very close race in the final which saw David Statham
winning by four seconds. In division 2 Michelle Snowden extended her lead by
being both fastest qualifier and winning the final. Cameron Summers was the fastest qualifier in division 3, but
Alwyn Hodges came good in the final to win by a lap from Cameron.
David Simpson was top qualifier
a lap ahead of Mike Simpson and Daniel Williams. In division 2 Dave Tomlinson was fastest with Michelle Snowden
second and Louis parker third. In
division 3 Cameron Summers was fastest being a lap clear of Kevin Flamson and
Alwyn Hodges.
The three qualifying over it
was time for the finals.
First up was the “C” final
which saw Cameron have a convincing win over Kevin, with Alfie Tomlinson a fine
third.
The “B” final was very close
for the first four minutes with Louis Parker and Glyn Butlin dicing for the
lead. Louis eventually forged ahead to win with Glyn second and Mathew Stones
third.
Last race of the evening was
the “A” final, David Simpson got a clean start from pole position but Mike
Simpson and Daniel Williams both lost valuable time when they crashed on the
first corner. David ran out an easy
winner but the battle for second place was very close, Mike just taking second
place 4.7 seconds ahead of Daniel.
The fourth of six rounds of
this years super league was held on Tuesday 23rd august. The qualifying was very close with the top
three drivers all on 57 laps being separated by less than 4 seconds. David Simpson took pole with a time of
361.38 seconds, Lee Bishop 361.93 and Mike Simpson 365.40. In division 2 Michelle Snowden continued her
good run of form with 47 laps, followed by Glyn Butlin 46 and Louis Parker 45.
In the “C” final Alwyn Hodges
won with 33 laps, Jenson Butlin second on 31 and Ben Petchey third with 30
laps.
Michelle and Louis had a
close race in the “B” final, Michelle eventually winning with a fine 50 laps,
Louis second 49 and Mathew Stones third with 41 laps.
The last race of the evening
was the “A” final and what a race it proved to be. David Simpson had a poor start from pole position and after two
minutes Lee Bishop had established a comfortable lead. An incredible last
minute saw his lead reduce but Lee kept a cool head to cross the line first
just 0.31 seconds ahead of David, both on 57 laps.
Another exciting evenings racing, Lee Bishop dominated
the qualifying heats, winning all three rounds and taking pole position in the
“A” final. In the final David Simpson
and Daniel Williams were the fastest drivers both beating 5 second laps, David
was the eventual winner with 66 laps closely followed by Daniel on 65.
In the “B” final “Team Williams” were again at the
front with Alun Williams winning, a full three laps ahead of Alwyn Hodges.
See the results page for the latest league positions.
A return to form by David Simpson who despite crashing
out in round 2 was fastest qualifier and had a runaway victory in the final,
winning by four laps. Daniel Williams set the fastest laptimes all evening but
could not maintain his consistency to take full advantage.
Glyn Butlin took control of
the qualifying with Louis Parker second and last weeks winner Michelle Snowden
taking third spot on the grid. Glyn
also won the final with Michelle improving to second place pushing Louis down
into third.
Summer League Round 3 – Michelle in dazzling
form
A “Z” shaped track design this week, again very fast
so any mistakes were very costly. Mike Simpson set the fastest qualifying lap
and also took pole position ahead of David Simpson. Some good driving by Michelle Snowden resulted in third fastest
overall and a place in the “A” final.
In the “B” final Glyn Butlin won with 55 laps ahead of
Robert Hambridge 51 laps and Alwyn Hodges 36.
The “A” final proved to be a very exciting race, Mike
Simpson took an early lead and mistakes by David Simpson saw Michelle move up
into second place and put in a tremendous performance to stay ahead to the end
of the race. Final positions were Mike first completing 61 laps, Michelle
second 59 laps and David third also with 59 laps.
Well done Michelle – no pressure next week!
Summer League Round 2 – Tuesday 26th
July
Daniel Williams set the early
pace winning heat 1, the next two heats saw David Simpson and Lee Bishop
fighting it out for FTD and was close – both drivers managing 56 laps with
David coming out on top with a time of 365.62 seconds just 0.19 seconds ahead
of Lee.
In the final things were just
as close, 63 laps for both drivers with David winning by three seconds. A great
drive by Daniel saw him set the fastest lap time and finish third on 62 laps.
Dave Tomlinson continued his
run of form to take the top qualifying spot ahead of Glyn Butlin and Louis
Parker. The final was a similar result with Dave completing 58 laps, Glyn 54
and Louis 50.
Some very exciting racing
resulted in Cameron Summers taking the top qualifying place with Alwyn Hodges
second and Courtney Orme third. In the
final Alwyn had a storming run to win, Courtney was second and Cameron third.
Oval Track – Tuesday 19th July
Just for a change the track
was an Oval design, which meant some very fast motoring and short lap
times. With only 12 drivers they were
split into two heats of 6 minutes duration per round.
After round 1 Dave Tomlinson
was the leading driver with 65 laps, this was bettered in round 2, which was
run anti-clockwise by Daniel Williams on 74 laps. The final qualifying round
was a very close race from a rolling start with David Simpson winning with 76
laps ahead of Dave Tomlinson 75, Daniel Williams 74 and Michelle Snowden 71.
Whilst the racing was going
on Stacey Atterbury and Alun Williams were preparing hot dogs for everyone to
eat. There was plenty of food to go round
and it was free, so everyone was well fed by the time it was due to run the
finals.
The eight minute duration “B”
final was a close battle between Cameron Summers, Kevin Flamson and Alun
Williams. With one minute to go Cameron and Kevin had pulled out a three lap
lead from the rest of the field, both finished with 73 laps with Cameron
winning, Kevin second and Alun finishing third on 70 laps.
The ultimate race of the
evening was the “A” final, this was fast! All drivers were lapping under 5
seconds, Dave Tomlinson and David Simpson were at the head of the field dicing
for the lead for lap after lap. Near the end David pulled out a 2 lap lead
which he maintained to the finish completing an incredible 106 laps and setting
the best lap time of the evening of 4.20 seconds. Dave Tomlinson finished second with 104 laps, Daniel Williams
third on 100 and Lee Bishop fourth 99 lap.
Many thanks to Stacey and
Alun for the food.
Summer League Round 1 – Tuesday 12th
July
Division 1
Following on from a fine
performance last week Daniel Williams was fastest qualifier completing 52 laps
ahead of Lee Bishop and Mike Simpson both on 51.
In the “A” final David
Simpson moved into an early lead and held onto it for the full six minutes race
to win on 53 laps and setting the fastest lap time of the evening. Mike was
second also with 53 laps and Lee Bishop third 51.
Division 2
Dave Tomlinson was the best
qualifier with 49 laps and making the “A” final, Michelle Snowden took second
place on 46 laps and Glyn Butlin third with 44.
The order was the same in the
finals so Dave made a good start to the league taking the maximum 41 points
from round 1.
Division 3
Cameron Summers was fastest
qualifier completing 31 laps, ahead of Alwyn Hodges and Ben Petchey both with
30.
A great drive in the “C”
final by Cameron resulted maximum 41 points with 37 laps and an easy win over a
fast improving Ben Petchey 30 and Alwyn Hodges 29 laps.
For the current league
positions see the latest results page.
Anticlockwise – Tuesday 5th July –
Team Williams flying
As a change from the usual
racing everything was reversed and the racing run in an anticlockwise direction
on a fast track with a tricky chicane on the main straight.
David Simpson was fastest
qualifier in division 1 with Mike Simpson second and Daniel Williams
third. In Division 2 Dave Tomlinson
took pole ahead of Glyn Butlin and Michelle Snowden. Division 3 saw some fine driving from Ben Petchey who was fastest
followed by Alwyn Hodges and Courtney Orme.
Onto the finals, Ben Petchey
had a storming race to win the “C” final on 44 laps with Alun Williams second
with 31 and Duane Petchey third with 30.
The “B” final was dominated
by Michelle who won easily with a fine 51 laps ahead of Glyn, 47 and Cameron 44
laps.
Electrical problems resulted
in David Simpson not starting the “A” final leaving Daniel Williams to leave
everyone standing with a first class drive, recording a magnificent 60 laps and
setting the fastest lap of the day.
Dave Tomlinson was second a full 5 laps back, closely followed by Mike
Simpson.
Spring league Final Round 10 – Tuesday 28th
June
This was the final round of
the league, in Division 1 Lee Bishop took maximum points being fastest
qualifier and winning the final. Daniel
Williams put in some very fast lap times to finish second behind Lee.
Division 2 saw Dave Tomlinson
taking the top qualifying spot only to be beaten into third place in the final
by Michelle Snowden and Glyn Butlin.
Louis Parker also took maximum
points in Division 3 with Mathew Stones and Ben Petchey finishing second and
third respectively.
The final leading positions
were as follows:-
Division 1 Division
2 Division
3
Winner Mike Simpson 304 Michelle Snowden 315 Louis Parker 322
Second Richard Parker 298 Glyn
Butlin 260 Alwyn
Hodges 282
Third Daniel Williams 291 Dave
Tomlinson 163 Cameron
Summers 277
Super league Round 3 – Tuesday 7th
June
David Simpson retains a
commanding lead in division 1 winning the “A” final after being pushed down to
second place on the grid behind Mike Simpson after the three qualifying rounds.
In division 2 Michelle
Snowden extended her lead over Louis Parker, a fine drive by Dave Tomlinson saw
him take pole in the final but he was beaten into second place by Michelle.
We are now half way through
the league, the best five from a possible six round scores to count.
Spring League Round 5 – Tuesday 17th
May
David Simpson was again on
top form setting the fastest lap of 6.36 seconds taking pole position in the
final despite having to rebuild his suspension following a head on crash with
his dad in round 1. Glyn Butlin put in
a good performance in division 2 win take a place in the “A” final. Mathew
Stones was the best qualifier in division 3 ahead of Louis Parker.
The “A” final was a similar
story to qualifying with David Simpson winning and Daniel Williams setting the
fastest lap of 6.42 seconds. Michelle
won the “B” final, beating second place driver Mathew by 4 laps. In the “C” final Callum Sissons was the
winner with Cameron Summers second, both on 30 laps.
We are now halfway through
the league, check the latest positions on the results page.
Spring League Round 4 – Tuesday 10th
May
David Simpson and Daniel
Williams were by far the fastest drivers on the track all evening with Daniel
sporting a gleaming white new bodyshell together with orange wheels and new
tyres for maximum effect. After some
close racing David was the fastest qualifier with 48 laps followed by Daniel on
47. For the second week running
Michelle Snowden was the quickest lady driver on the track (the only one this
week!). Callum Sissons and Louis Parker
had close races in division 3 with Callum eventually taking the top spot ahead
of Louis with Alwyn Hodges putting in a good performance to claim third
place. The finals were a very similar
story apart from division 3 where a dazzling performance from Alwyn to take
second place, beating Louis down into third. Fast improving Ben Petchey also
had a good drive beating his dad by a clear six laps!
No changes to the overall
league positions this week, Daniel Williams made up ground in third place to be
within a single point of Richard Parker, David Simpson despite taking maximum
points is still well down the order. There are six more rounds left yet so
plenty of time for positions to change.
Spring League Round 3
Another very competitive
evenings racing saw Mike Simpson take over as leader of division 1 from Richard
Parker who despite setting some very fast times and being second fastest
qualifier had to settle for fourth place in the final. Daniel Williams put in a
charge near the end of the race but an error on the final lap cost him the
race. Michelle Snowden was the only
division 2 driver present, so accumulated a maximum 41 points. Division three was very exciting and it was
good to see several of the junior members going so well. Mathew Stones was fastest qualifier but
Louis Parker won the final ahead of Mathew and Callum Sissons in third place.
Easter Team Fun Night – Tuesday 26th
April
These events are always very
popular and this week was no exception, drivers were split into four different
teams and allocated three transponders with only two cars per team being
allowed on the track at any one time. A
grid start and heat one was in progress, the race length was 40 minutes so team
tactics and efficient changeovers would help to win the day. Lee Bishop and his
team were the leaders after the first heat achieving 510 laps with Daniel
William’s team in second place with 458.
After a short break it was time to complete the second half of the race,
so another 40 minutes of racing commenced. A few technical problems were now
encountered by several driver so several unplanned driver changes were
necessary. The pace was relentless, the
final result was Daniel Williams 497 and Lee Bishop 479. This meant the overall result for the evening
was:-
Winners Lee Bishop, Cameron Summers, Callum Sisson,
Craig Foster, Rob Hambridge
Second Daniel Williams, Dave Tomlinson, Alfie Tomlinson, Jenson
Butlin, David Simpson.
Third Chris Snowden, Michelle Snowden, Alwyn Hodges, Kevin
Flamson.
Fourth Richard Parker, Louis Parker, Ben Petchey, Duane Petchey,
Mike Simpson.
There were easter eggs as
prizes for the first three teams.
Spring League Round 2
Round 2 of the league saw the
best racing for many weeks on a very fast track design with the leaders lapping
in less than six seconds. Mathew Stones
led the way in the qualifying heats in division 3 with 43 laps, division leader
Louis Parker having to settle for second place on 38. A great drive by Alwyn Hodges put him third with 35 laps.
Division 2 was very close,
Michelle Snowden was best ahead of Alex Barry and Dave Tomlinson, all three
drivers making 50 laps.
Richard Parker dominated
division 1 with an impressive 59 laps in front of Mike Simpson and Daniel
Williams.
After a short break the
finals got underway, after waiting for Alwyn to sign autographs after
qualifying for pole position in the “C” final the action started. Another fine performance saw him win the
final with 34 laps, withstanding some early pressure from Cameron Summers 27
laps and Courtney Orme 26 laps. The
Petchey family battled it out for the next two places, Jennie eventually
finishing ahead of Ben – were they any team orders?.
Dave Tomlinson had an easy
win in the “B” final managing 52 laps, a good drive from Mathew Stones put him
second on 43 and Glyn Butlin third with 42 laps.
The “A” final got off to a
great start with top qualifier Richard Parker leading the way, the next six
minutes saw the most exciting racing seen at the club this year with Richard,
Mike Simpson and Daniel Williams dicing at speed for the whole race at a
furious pace. The lead changed hands
several times with Richard seeming to have the race in the bag at one stage.
Then a storming finish by Daniel saw him edge ahead to win with the best
performance of the evening a tremendous 60 laps, Richard took second place also
on 60 and Mike third with 59 laps. Michelle Snowden also was on top form
finishing in fourth place with 48 laps.
All this meant changes to the
league positions, Richard Parker is the new leader division 1, Michelle Snowden
heads division 2 whilst Louis Parker retained his lead in division 3. See the
results page for the latest positions.
Spring League Round 1
With spring in the air the
new league commenced, the first of ten rounds with the best eight to count.
Three rounds of qualifying were very keenly contested, in division 1 less than
three seconds separated the first three drivers all on 42 laps, David Simpson
taking pole with Mike second and Richard Parker third. Division 2 saw Tom Wright in first place
with 37 laps with Alex Barry and Michelle Snowden on 34. Louis Parker was well clear of the rest of
the field in Division 3, winning with 26 laps, Alwyn Hodges second with 20 and
Cameron Summers third with 17 laps.
The “C” final was soon
underway and a steady drive by Kevin Flamson saw him take the winning spot with
25 laps, Nick Wallace was second on 23 and Alwyn Hodges third with 20 laps.
The pace in the “B” final was
much quicker, Tom Wright and Michelle Snowden set a good pace being very
closely matched throughout the race, Tom managed to hold on to the lead
finishing three seconds ahead of Michelle, both drivers scoring 36 laps. Dave
Tomlinson was third a further two laps down.
The last of the evening was
the “A” final and it was worth waiting for. With all the drivers being evenly
matched any mistakes proved to be costly, David Simpson was on top form with
Richard Parker again putting in a tremendous performance these two being the
fastest two drivers on the track. After four minutes David had built up a
substantial lead when disaster struck, his transmitter batteries going flat
resulting in him crashing out in style. This left Richard Parker in the lead
with Mike Simpson in second place, a couple of minor incidents let Mike take
the lead but Richard was lapping faster and was soon challenging for the lead
again. With the drivers running side by
side at full speed a coming together resulted in Richard loosing time and Mike
took the chequered flag, both drivers on 41 laps. Lee Bishop was third with 39
laps.
Super-League Round 2
April 5th saw round
2 of the super-league which runs all year on alternate months, six rounds in
total with the best five scores to count.
With twenty drivers in three heats the qualifying was very competitive
and fine performances from Alex Barry resulted in him reaching the “A”
final. David Simpson was top qualifier
with his dad Mike second very closely followed by Richard Parker. The strain of making some repairs to the
track took its toll on Robert Hambridge who could only manage eighth fastest
for second place spot in the “B” Final.
Tom Wright took poll position, Michelle Snowden eventually got the
better of Fabien Gayraud to claim third place on the grid. Louis Parker took pole position in the “C”
final ahead of Callum Sissons and Alwyn Hodges.
After the presentation of the
winter league trophies the finals got underway.
Craig Foster own the “C”
final, Callum Sissons had a good drive to take second place, beating Louis
Parker into third. Alwyn Hodges had a steady drive in fourth spot, Ben Petchey
was much improved this week in fifth and Cameron Summers drove well only to
have his battery go flat a minute before the end of the race.
The “B” final saw a very
determined Robert Hambridge take an early lead, Fabien Gayraud challenged hard
but could not make up ground and finished second in front of Tom Wright in
third.
The last race of the evening
was the “A” final, a fast and furious race got underway with all the cars
lapping under 7 seconds with just a few hundredth of seconds difference. It was
a fight to the finish, David Simpson winning, Mike second and Richard Parker
third. See the results page for the overall positions.
Clubnight 29th March
A testing track design with
fast open sections and several tight bends put getting the right line at a
premium. David Simpson set the pace in
round one, Richard Parker was on fire in round two moving up to second fastest
qualifying position. Unfortunately he
was literally on fire in round three when his motor expired in a blue haze,
which meant a spare motor for the final, Mike Simpson put in a fine performance
in round three to take pole in the “A” final with 43 laps which proved to be
the best of the evening.
The “C” final was very
closely contested with all the drivers on the same laps for several minutes
before it turned into a race between Callum Sissons and Cameron Summers. The final positions were winner Callum 26
laps, second Cameron 24 laps and third Alwyn Hodges on 21 laps.
The “B” final was uneventful
following the early exit by Michelle Snowden, Alex Barry had a runaway victory
with 37 laps ahead of Glyn Butlin 29 and Louis Parker 22.
The “A” final saw the six
fastest driver together, places changed several times throughout the race with
David Simpson winning, Mike Simpson second and Richard Parker third.
Don’t forget it is round two
of the superleague next week, Tuesday 5th April.
Winter league Final Results
David Statham returned to
mardave racing and after a steady start soon regained his old form, going on to
take the fastest qualifier spot and win the “A” final. In the qualifying heats it was a case of the
three Ds, David Statham, David Simpson and Daniel Williams taking
the top three places well ahead of the rest of the field. In division 2 Tom Wright put in an excellent
performance to secure a place in the “A” final, Alex Barry and Michelle Snowden
were second and third fastest.
The “C”
final was a very close race between Louis Parker, Kevin Flamson and Callum
Sisson, Louis managed to hold on to a slender lead despite pressure from Kevin
to win, both drivers having completed 33 laps. Callum was third with 32 laps.
The “B”
final saw an unusual combination of drivers with a below par performance in the
qualifying from Robert Hambridge. He
did not have things all his own way however with Alex Barry challenging for the
lead for most of the race. In the end Robert won with 46 laps, Alex second with
45 and Michelle Snowden third on 41 laps. Glyn Butlin also had a good drive to
finish fourth with 36 laps.
The “A” final
promised to be a great race, with the grid very close to the first bend there
were a few minor collisions before the race settled down at a furious pace.
David Simpson was an early casualty leaving David Statham, Daniel Williams and
Mike Simpson to battle it out for the six minutes. With David leading Mike and Daniel fought it out for second
place, with fortunes changing throughout the race Mike eventually got the upper
hand to take second place and Daniel third, both on 51 laps one behind the
winner David Statham.
The final
league positions were:-
Division 1 Division 2
Winner Mike Simpson 312 points Tom
Wright 309 points
Second Daniel Williams 284 points Michelle
Snowden 299 points
Third Richard Parker 278 points Craig
Foster 280 points
Fourth Rob Hambridge 270 points Louis
Parker 259 points
Winter league Round 9 – Daniel puts on a
dazzling display
The penultimate round of the
winter league on a very tight circuit saw Daniel Williams in devastating form
leaving everyone else trailing to battle for second place. After the qualifying heats Daniel completed
39 laps with Mike Simpson and Richard Parker both on 38 followed by Robert
Hambridge with 37. In division 2 Craig
Foster set the pace with 34 laps, Michelle Snowden and Tom Wright both scored
33.
The “C” Final saw Louis
Parker winning with a good performance on 26 laps, Kevin Flamson was second
with 24 and Alwyn Hodges third with 23 lap.
In the “B” Final Craig had
another good drive from pole position to win the race on 34 laps, it was very
close for second and third, Tom Wright just beat Michelle Snowden to the
finishing line, both drivers with 33 laps.
The last race of the evening
was the “A” Final and Daniel Williams had a comfortable win from pole position
on the grid, it was very close for second place with Mike Simpson finishing
just ahead of Robert Hambridge two laps down.
Next week is the final round
of the winter league, there will be trophies for the top three drivers in each
division, so with the best eight from a possible ten rounds scores to count it
will go down to the wire and I am sure it will be a very entertaining evening.
Winter league Round 8
Another very competitive
evenings racing saw Mike Simpson extend his lead in division 1 ahead of Daniel
Williams and Lee Bishop. David Simpson for the second consecutive round took
maximum points, being fastest qualifier and winning the “A” Final. Craig Foster was the fastest qualifier in
division 2 but a poor result in the final meant he lost ground on the
leaders. Michelle Snowden had an
excellent drive in the final to make up 2 points on the league leader Tom
Wright. There are just two rounds
remaining, the final round being on 22nd March. See latest results page for current league
positions.
Anti-Clockwise racing 1st March
To give a
break from the league, this week everyone raced around the track in the
opposite direction to normal. It always
seems quite strange but you soon adjust.
Lee Bishop was again the man to beat winning all three qualifying heats,
it was very competitive with Fabien Gayraud at top speed after three weeks
break from racing.
In the “A” final it was a
case of experience winning through as Mike Simpson put in the best run of the
evening to win with 60 laps. Lee was close behind on 59 laps and Fabien third
with 54 setting the fastest lap of 5.46 seconds along the way.
The “B” final saw a Chris
Snowden victory with 53 laps ahead of Michelle Snowden with 51 and Tom Wright
on the same lap.
Daniel Williams found himself
in the “C” final after mechanical problems in each of the three heats. He had an easy win with 44 laps ahead of his
dad Alun with 36 and Glyn Butlin 32.
Remember it is back to the
league next week, there are only three rounds remaining.
Winter league Round 7 – Team Simpson forge
ahead
Just when
everyone thought that racing could not get any more exciting along came round 7
of the league. An indication of how
evenly the top drivers are matched is that during the previous six rounds
nobody in division 1 had managed to take maximum points. In the qualifying David Simpson was the
quickest setting the evenings best of 57 laps followed by Mike Simpson 56 and
Lee Bishop 55. In division 2 Tom Wright
was again fastest qualifier on 49 laps followed by Michelle Snowden 48 and Alex
Barry 47.
The “C”
final was won by Johnny Hall on 36 laps after sorting out a few teething
problems with his new car. Alun Williams had a steady drive to take second
place on the same laps (better watch out Daniel) and Cameron Summers was third
with 30.
The “B”
final was fast and furious, Michelle took an early lead but Alex eventually
built up a comfortable lead to win with 50 laps, Craig was second on 48 and
Michelle third with 47.
The focus was now on the “A” final, David Simpson got a clean start from
pole position with all the other drivers following in close pursuit. There were
a few spills on the way but David held on to his lead to win completing 56
laps. It was incredibly close for the
other places with positions changing several times during the race, in the end
Mike was second, Daniel who set the fastest lap of the evening third and Lee
Bishop Fourth, all on 55 laps with just 2.34 seconds separating them all – what
a race!!
Winter league Round 6 – Daniel Finally hits the
top
Daniel Williams had an excellent
drive setting the fastest lap of the evening on his way to winning a very
competitive “A” final after starting in second place on the grid behind Mike
Simpson who finished in second place ahead of Richard Parker who was third. The “B” final saw another win by Tom Wright
who took maximum points in division 2 after also being fastest qualifier, Alex
Barry was second and Craig Foster third.
In the “C” final Louis Parker had another comfortable win with Glyn Butlin
second and Callum Sisson third. There
are now just four more rounds of the league remaining, see the results page for
the current position.
Super league 2011 Round 1 – David Simpson on
form
The first of six rounds of
the super league was held on Tuesday 8th February, again a very
competitive evening with most of the races going down to the wire. David Simpson had splashed out on a new body
shell complete with a new set of tyres and was in devastating form being three
laps clear of the field in the qualifying to take pole position in the “A”
final. Robert Hambridge was again very quick to be second and Mike Simpson
third. In division 2 Tom Wright was fastest ahead of Michelle Snowden and Alex
Barry. Ben Petchey also did well to
take pole in the “C” final ahead of Jennie Petchey and Alwyn Hodges.
The “C” final saw a
comfortable win for Craig Foster with Louis Parker second and Alwyn third. The
“B” final was a much closer thing with Tom and Michelle fighting it out for the
lead, Tom won the race with Michelle a lap down, Craig finished in third.
The last race of the evening
was the “A” final, David Simpson and Robert Hambridge set a very fast pace and
there was little difference between all of the six drivers. With everybody
dicing for position at speed and just a few inches apart there was little room
for driver error. David eventually
pulled out a lead and won on 62 laps with Robert and Mike second and third on
61 laps. Once again Daniel Williams set the fastest lap time being 6/100th
second quicker than David.
So in division 1 David Simpson
leads with a maximum 41 points, Robert second 38 and Mike third 36. In division 2 Tom Wright has 41 points,
Michelle 38 with both Alex and Craig on 35.
With five more rounds
remaining, one being held every two months there is a long way to go win a trophy.
WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 5 – Rob has a flying final,
Mike the new League leader
A much more twisty and tight
track layout for this round resulted in slower lap times and precision driving
required to overtake. In division 1
Mike Simpson was the fastest qualifier after a good drive in round three, David
Simpson second and the ever-improving Richard Parker third. Lee Bishop the league leader was having a
poor evening and could only manage fifth place qualifier. In division 2 Fabien Gayraud was very fast
and took pole position ahead of Michelle Snowden and Tom Wright.
The finals were next, in the
“C” final Craig Foster had an easy win four laps ahead of Louis Parker who had
to run the last minute with a wheel missing, Alwyn Hodges was third and Ben
Petchey fourth.
The “B” final promised to be
an exciting race with the lead changing hands several times, Fabien eventually
got the upper hand to pull out a two lap lead from Tom Wright. The battle was
then for third place between Michelle, Daniel and Alex Barry. All of these
drivers finished on 40 laps with just 4 seconds separating them, the finishing
order being Michelle, Daniel and Alex. This meant there was no change to the
division 2 leaders, Tom remaining a single point ahead of Michelle.
The “A” final got off to a
clean start with Mike Simpson making the most of his pole position and taking
an early lead. Robert Hambridge was by far the fastest on the track and
overtook everyone to win the race. Lee Bishop put in an excellent performance
during the second half of the race to pip Mike Simpson for second place. The results for the evening meant a big
change at the top of the league with Mike now having a three point advantage
over Lee in second place at the half way point of the league.
Next week it is the super-league
2011 round 1, the best 5 of 6 rounds throughout the year to count.
WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 4 – Daniel sets the fastest
lap
Another very fast and flowing
track layout saw the most competitive racing of the year so far. In division 1
Lee Bishop was determined to retain the lead in the league but Mike Simpson won
the first qualifying round, however Lee was on top form and won both rounds 2
and 3 to take pole once again in the final. Heat 2 saw a very fast Fabien
Gayraud at one point setting the fastest lap time of the evening, Michelle
Snowden was very quick in round 3 to take pole position ahead of Tom Wright and
Fabien. In heat 3 Mathew Stones and
Alex Barry were both on form, Mathew eventually getting the upper hand in round
3 ahead of Alex and Alwyn Hodges. The
fastest lap time went to Daniel Williams with 5.85 seconds, just 1/100th
of a second ahead of Robert Hambridge.
The first final was the “C”,
this soon became a two horse race between Mathew Stones and Alex Barry, the
lead changed over several times before Alex built up a lead to win by two laps
from Mathew with Alwyn taking third spot.
In the “B” final Fabien was
flying – literally some times, Michelle was going well until a mechanical
failure brought her car to a standstill. This left Fabien, Tom and Craig to
battle for the lead. Tom was the winner, Fabien second and Craig third.
This means that Tom replaces
Michelle as the leader of league division 2 taking a 1 point lead on 150 with
six rounds still remaining.
The last race of the evening
was the “A” final and was certainly worth waiting for. Richard Parker got off
to a great start and set a very fast pace, Mike Simpson and Lee Bishop both
struggled to keep up whilst Daniel Williams was lapping very quickly until a
battery failure brought his race to an abrupt end. With the finals being 8
minutes duration things were getting very close, Richard was going well and
held onto his lead until less than one minute from the end when Mike Simpson
went into the lead and took the chequered flag. What a fantastic race, the
result being Mike first, Richard second and Lee Bishop third all on 72 laps
with just 4 seconds between them. This
meant the Lee continues to lead the league just 1 point ahead of Mike.
WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 3 – LEE BISHOPS LEAD CUT TO
1 POINT
What an evenings racing, the
track was very fast but had a tricky section which demanded total concentration
to avoid loosing a lot of time. In the
top heat all the cars were very evenly matched, Rob Hambridge stormed to a win
in round 1, Lee Bishop took round 2 and Mike Simpson was the winner of round 3
also setting the best qualifying time to take pole position in the final. In heat 2 Fabien Gayraud was flying after a
few set up tips from Rob on adjusting his cars ride height, Tom Wright also put
in a good performance. In heat 3 Ben
Petchey was the fastest ahead of Alwyn Hodges and Jennie Petchey.
Onto the finals, Louis Parker
had an easy win in the “C” final, Ben was second ahead of Alwyn and Jennie –
obviously no team orders in the Petchie family!
The “B” final was fast and
furious, Craig Foster took and early lead but Fabien was the eventual winner
with Michelle a close second and Tom third.
All that remained was the “A”
final, this was an excellent race with all of the drivers putting in very fast
lap times. David Simpson looked to have the race sewn up until 20 seconds from
the end when his battery came adrift following a shunt. This let Lee Bishop
into the lead and he won with Mike Second with David third.
The league points are now
very interesting, Lee Bishop still leads with 119 points, Mike Simpson second
118 points and both Robert Hambridge and Daniel Williams 100.
Michelle Snowden continues to
lead division 2 with 114 points, Tom Wright has 111 and Louis Parker 100.
WINTER LEAGUE 2011
The new racing season has go
into full swing with two rounds of the winter league series already
completed. Lee Bishop has continued his
run of form taking 40 points from each of the rounds to lead division 1 on a
total of 80 points. Hot on his heels
winning both of the finals is Mike Simpson with 78 points, Robert Hambridge is
in third place on 68. With very little
between the top six drivers this has the makings of a very competitive league,
we will have to wait and see who is the winner after the final round 10.
Michelle Snowden had a
fantastic drive in round 2, being both fastest qualifier and winning the “B”
final to take the second maximum 41 points of the competition. She leads
division 2 with 77 points ahead of round 1 leader Alex Barry and Tom Wright
both on 74 points.
NO RACING ON TUESDAY 28th
DECEMBER
Merry Christmas and a happy
New Year to all our members, note that there will not be any racing on the
Tuesday between Christmas and New Year so this should give plenty of time to
get your cars in top condition for 2011, which starts on Tuesday 4th
January with the first round of the winter league.
CHRISTMAS FUN NIGHT
The final race meeting of
2010 was the Christmas fun night and by popular demand there were two rounds of
caravan racing.
Several members had spent
some time constructing vehicles especially for the event, others used in
previous years had been spruced up – even Mike Simpson had a redesigned upvc
tow bar on his trusty van.
Before the racing the rigs
were judged by the chairman Stacey, the best prepared caravan award going to
Alwyn Hodges, Michelle Snowden was runner up and Louis parker third.
It was time for the racing
and two rounds of caravans followed. As usual the racing was very entertaining
with the driving testing and some of the caravans not standing up to the strain
of racing on the very fast track. David Statham was in devastating form
storming round the track to win by ten laps from the rest of the field. Robert
Hambridge was second and Richard Parker third.
Food was then the order of
the day with curry, sausages and chips being served.
Next everyone was on the
track for “musical carpets” – similar to musical chairs but cars having to stop
on A4 size areas placed around the circuit, one less than the number of cars!
Early rounds saw many of the more experienced drivers eliminated and we
eventually got down to the last three, Lee Bishop, Daniel Williams and David
Statham. David was first to be knocked
out leaving a very competitive head to head between the last two, after a
frantic scramble for the last refuge Daniel was the winner.
The final event was football,
goals being set up at opposing ends of the hall and using a large foam football
battle commenced. It soon became obvious that it was very difficult to propel a
football in the right direction with a mass of other cars arriving from all
directions. Even so three quick goals were scored by one of the teams and it
all looked a bit one sided when they increased their lead to 7-3. A great
comeback then occurred and with batteries failing the score with 20 seconds to
play was 7-6 and the goal under serious attack again. As the seconds ticked
away the ball would just not cross the line so the score line remained.
After putting all the
equipment away the trophies were presented for the fun night, autumn league and
super league, the loudest applause going to Louis Parker the winner in division
2 of the autumn league.
What a great evening, as the year
is now nearly over we all look forward to racing in 2011.
AUTUMN LEAGUE FINAL RESULTS
Lee
Bishop missed the final round but with five rounds of maximum points was the
runaway winner of division 1 on 311 points, Mike Simpson was second with 288
and Daniel Williams third on 275.
Division
2 was very competitive and the winner after a great performance in the final
round was Louis Parker scoring 282 points. Michelle Snowden took second place
with 260 points
and Craig
Foster third on 250.
Trophies will be presented at
the Christmas fun night on 21st December.
AGM Tuesday 30th November – Club has a new Chairman
Stacey
Atterbury was elected as Club Chairman, taking over from Richard Wroughton who
takes up the role of Vice Chairman.
I am sure
that Stacey will do an excellent job and be able to count on the support of all
the members.
CHRISTMAS FUN NIGHT– TUESDAY 21st
DECEMBER
This will include “caravan racing” so it is time to make any repairs to
your existing ones or get constructing, it is also planned to have a “football” event and there will be some hot food
available so don’t be late as I am sure it will be a great evening.
The trophies for the Autumn league
and Super-league will also be presented.
AUTUMN LEAGUE ROUND 6
Lee
Bishop was in unbeatable form winning all of the qualifying heats and the “A”
final achieving 58 laps of the circuit and beating David Simpson by just 0.21
seconds – that was a close finish!
Daniel
Williams won the “B” final with 47 laps ahead of Michelle Snowden on 45 laps.
The “B”
final was a very close race, the lead changed several time but Alwyn Hodges
came out on top to win with 27 laps 10 seconds ahead of Ben Petchey with the
same number of laps.
Lee has a large lead in the league division 1 having won 5 of the 6 rounds with maximum points. In division 2 Louis Parker leads with 206 points, Alex Barry is second with 190 and Michelle Snowden third on 183. With four more rounds to go the situation could change, see the latest results page.
TEAM EVENT – TUESDAY 2nd NOVEMBER
Sixteen
drivers in four teams with two per team racing at any one time on a very fast
oval shaped track for two 35 minute duration rounds meant that everyone had to
be on their toes all of the while to avoid a disaster.
In round 1
Michelle Snowden set the pace with an incredible 269 laps, next best was Zach
Clements 186 and Fabien Gayraud 161. With Callum Sissons also achieving 149
laps team 4 were the clear leaders on 516 laps followed by team 1on 420 laps.
With hot
dogs, chip butties (thanks Stacey) and drinks available during the break
between rounds all were refreshed and ready to race again.
This time
it was Daniel Williams who completed the most laps, equaling Michelle’s first
round total.
The
racing was very quick and most teams had spells where they could not keep two
cars on the track at a time due to mechanical failures and batteries running
flat. This all added to the excitement.
Final
results were:
Winners
(1021) Daniel Williams, Michelle
Snowden, Chris Snowden, Callum Sissons.
Second
(921) Mike Simpson, Zach Clements,
Alex Barry, Alwyn Hodges
Third (818) Fabien
Gayraud, Richard Parker, Louis Parker, Ben Petchey
Fourth
(585) Robert Hambridge, Tom Wright,
Craig Foster, Jennie Petchey
Trophies
were presented to the winning and second place teams, the prizes for Halloween
fancy dress went to Louis Parker and Ben Petchey.
LEE IS THE LEAGUE LEADER
Lee Bishop remained in
unbeatable form for round 5 of the autumn league and stretched his lead in
division 1 to 21 points at the halfway point, with a total of 10 rounds and the
best 8 scores to count the title is not his yet though!
After the three qualifying
rounds the positions were:
Division 1
Lee Bishop 74 laps, Mike
Simpson 45 laps, Robert Hambridge 43 laps, Daniel Williams 43 laps.
Division 2
Fabien Gayraud 40 laps,
Michelle Snowden 38 laps, Alex Barry 34 laps
The finals were next racing
for eight minutes so concentration was at a premium on the fast circuit.
The “C” final was first and a
very good drive from Louis Parker took him to an easy victory on 47 laps,
second was Alywn Hodges on 32 and third Ben Petchey with 13 laps.
The “B” final was very close,
Richard Parker and Michelle Snowden setting the pace for the first six minutes,
disaster then struck as Michelle’s car broke down allowing Richard to cruise to
an easy win with 65 laps. Alex barry took second place on 57 and Tom Wright
third just two seconds slower.
The “A” final was fast and
furious with the lead changing several times during the race, Lee Bishop was
the victor with 74 laps, Daniel Williams second on 71 with Mike Simpson taking
third place a further lap behind.
FIRST MEETING AT STANTON VILLAGE HALL
The first race meeting at the
Buggy Clubs new venue was held on Tuesday 28th September and proved to
be a great success. Robert Hambridge was on top form being the fastest
qualifier and hence taking pole position in the “A” Final with 33 laps. David
Simpson achieved the same number of laps and was only 0.71 seconds slower with
Lee Bishop and Mike Simpson a further 2 laps down.
The 6 minute finals proved to
be very close with Rob maintaining his form to win on 43 laps, David Simpson

convincing win. Daniel Williams, newly promoted from division 2 was second in
the final with Mike Simpson third.

SPRING / SUMMER LEAGUE FINAL RESULTS
The final round of the league
took place on Tuesday 19th July, with holiday season in full swing
there were less drivers than normal, this resulted in being able to increase
the race durations and some of the most competitive racing this year followed.
After the three qualifying
heats David Simpson was fastest with 42 laps closely followed by Mike Simpson
on 41 and a very quick Daniel Williams with 40.
The stage was set for the 7
minutes duration finals and first up was the “B” Final with Tom Wright on pole
getting off to a good start and cruising to a convincing victory achieving 40
laps. Behind him there was a very close
battle between Craig Foster and Louis Parker with Craig eventually taking
second place overtaking Louis two laps from the finish.
The “A” Final followed and it
proved to be one of the fastest and exciting races this year. From the start
David Simpson took the lead and Fabien Gayraud shot though the field into
second place. Daniel Williams had a few
technical problems with his car which dropped him down the field, but these
sorted he was driving like a man possessed and set fastest lap times which were
only beaten by the eventual winner David Simpson in the latter part of the
race. Mike Simpson with a clean and
steady drive finished second just 1 lap down and Robert Hambridge third a
further 2 laps slower.
The top positions in the
League with the best 8 weeks results to count were:-
Division 1
Winner David Statham 320 points
(4 maximum scores)
Second David Simpson 297 (2
maximum scores)
Third Mike Simpson 288
Division 2
Winner Daniel Williams 328
points (8 maximum scores)
Second Fabien Gayraud 300
Third Tom Wright 266
Congratulations to Daniel,
Fabien and Tom who are promoted to Division 1, it should be noted that Daniel
won eight of the ten rounds in division 2 and is now one of the fastest drivers
in the club.
JULY 2010 TEAM EVENT AND BBQ
With the weather looking good
all was set for the team event and BBQ, whilst the track was being set up
Stacey and John Vaughan got the cooking underway. The hot weather certainly did
not decrease anyone’s appertite as all the sausages and burgers followed by ice
creams soon were eaten. Many thanks to both Stacey and John for organizing
everything.
Inside the hall things were
hotting up with round 1 of the team event underway, there were two teams of 5
and one of 4 drivers. Rules were very simple, each race was 40 minutes duration
and only 2 cars from each team were allowed on the track at a time. Lee Bishops team were the leaders after
round 1, followed by David Simpson, leaving Mike Simpson’s team in last place.
Round 2 was soon underway
with Daniel Williams setting a blistering pace and with David Simpson’s car out
of action he needed to keep going for most of the race. All went well for about
20 minutes then his car disappeared in a cloud of smoke as the motor burnt out.
This gave a chance to Mike Simpson’s team and some fine driving by Fabien and
Michelle brought them up to second place.
Final results were.
Winners – Lee Bishop, Richard
Parker, Tom Wright, Louis Parker, Craig Foster.
Second – Mike Simpson, Fabien
Gayraud, Michelle Snowden, Alwyn Hodges, Callum Sisson.
Third – David Simpson, Daniel
Williams, Alex Barry, Dane Clements.
Everyone had a great time and
it is planned to hold a similar event later in the year.

MAY TROPHY MEETING GOES GREEN
This was a
meeting with a unique prize presentation, with trophies to be won in each of
the three finals everyone was keen to do well. As usual there were three
qualifying heats, which produced an incredibly close result. There were four
drivers at the top with 32 laps and again Robert Hambridge was unbeatable – but
it was very close, in fact only five hundredths of a second separated him from
second placed qualifier David Statham. Lee Bishop and Daniel Williams also
managed 32 lap to take third and fourth place on the “A” final grid.
After a
short break it was on to the finals, the “C” final was first and Alex Barry was
the clear winner with 29 laps ahead of Alun Williams with 26, Louis Parker on
18 and Phil Molnar a very creditable fourth with 13 laps.
Onto the
“B” final, some fast lap times here, in the end Zach Clements had a comfortable
win on 34 laps, three clear of Richard Parker 31, Tom Wright 30 and an out of
form David Simpson 15 laps.
The last
race was the “A” final, this was very competitive with the top three drivers
all managing 39 laps. Robert Hambridge was the winner again, two seconds behind
was Lee Bishop with Mike Simpson taking third spot a further second adrift.
The prize
presentation followed with vice chairman Stacey Atterbury officiating and being
assisted by the mystery “green man”.
SPRING LEAGUE ROUND 6 – ALUN HAS HIS CAKE AND
EATS IT
With 7
minute qualifying heats Mathew Stones took pole position for the “B” Final
ahead of Alun Williams and Dane Clements. It was Alun’s birthday and after
celebrating with a cake with candles and a swift motor change he put in a fine
drive but could not match the pace of Mathew who won on 49 laps, Alun finishing
second with 47.
In heat 2
Robert Hambridge was fastest and took pole position in the “A” Final ahead of
Lee Bishop and Daniel Williams.
The final
was a very competitive race with Robert taking an early lead, being chased hard
by Daniel and Lee. An excellent race
ensued and was very close for the full 10 minutes, Rob holding onto his lead
and finishing with 67 laps, just 6 seconds ahead of Daniel with Lee a further
lap adrift. There are just 4 more rounds left in the League, the best 8 from 10
results to count.
SPRING LEAGUE ROUND 5
Round 5
marked the halfway point in the current spring league and with just 14 drivers
they were split into two heats. Some
excellent driving by Fabien Gayraud gave him the top spot in heat 1 just ahead
of Andy Clements. In heat two the
racing was fast and furious, in the end David Statham was the fastest and took
pole position in the “A” final ahead of Robert Hambridge, Lee Bishop and Daniel
Williams.
First final
to run over 10 minutes was the “B”, racing proved to be very close with Fabien
eventually pulling out a two lap lead over Andy Clements in second place and
Richard Parker fading near the end to take third place a further two laps
behind.
The “A”
final was next, a good start by David Statham put him in the lead but racing
was very competitive, Rob Hambrige, Daniel Williams and Lee Bishop were flying
but David Simpson was having trouble with the handling of his car. Disaster stuck for Daniel – he had forgotten
to put the transponder in his car and consequently finished last. David Statham
had an easy win by three laps with Lee Bishop and David Simpson finishing
second and third respectively two laps behind.
ROB UNWINDS AT SPEED
A fine
performance from Daniel Williams resulted in him setting the pace after round
1. However Robert Hambridge took
control in heat 2 and was again the fastest qualifier of the evening and winner
of the “A” final in the May Anticlockwise clubnight.
AGM – ROB IS COOKING ON GAS
Robert
Hambridge was on top form for the free race meeting following the AGM, he won
each of the four heats and took the top qualifier spot with 34 laps being a
full lap ahead of Mike Simpson, Lee Bishop and Richard Brookes. He was the fastest driver on the track all
evening, will he be able to maintain his form next week in round 2 of the
super-league - no pressure Rob!
AGM – CLUB TO JOIN THE BRCA
At the AGM
on 13th April it was decided to join the BRCA, membership forms will
be available on 20th April.
There have
been a few changes to the committee, Stacey Atterbury is the new Vice Chairman
and David Simpson Treasurer.
EASTER EGG TEAM EVENT A CRACKING SUCCESS
16 mardave
drivers, 4 teams of 4, two races of 45 minutes duration, prizes to be won, this
was the scene on Easter Tuesday evening.
The rules
were simple, two rounds with every drivers laps to count, a maximum of 2 cars
in each team allowed on the track at any one time, a team marshalling point
must be manned, the rest was up to the drivers and team tactics.
Round 1 was
soon underway with a group start for the first 8 drivers, David Statham and Lee
Bishop both got off to a fine start and set a fast pace but how long would
their cars survive before their batteries went flat. Everyone was flying except
team 4 as Michelle Snowden had problems with her transmitter forcing Alun
Williams into the race earlier than planned.
After 30 minutes there had been a few breakdowns, Kevin Flamson only
managed 27 laps and Alex Barry less than a lap putting extra pressure on their
remaining team members. The race
continued at a fast and pace and after 30 minutes it was teams 1 and 3 leading
with team 2 about 20 laps down. With
motors getting very hot batteries becoming flat team tactics now came into
play, team 2 were making up ground rapidly, after what seemed a lifetime the 45
minutes were up and round 1 was completed.
There was a lot of interest in the half way result, would one of the
teams be way ahead in the race?
The team
scores were incredibly close, Team 2 leading on 425 laps, team 424 laps, team 1
404 laps and team 4 350 laps.
So there
was everything to race for in the second round and after 10 minutes rest the
racing restarted.
Team 4 were
doing better this time with Michelle having sorted out her car, team 1
struggled with both Tom Wright and Alex Barry having issues with their cars
which meant that David Statham and Daniel Williams needed an excellent
performance to keep the teams hopes alive.
Consistency
and reliability were the order of the day and teams 2 and 3 performed really
well and were neck and neck throughout the race with first one and then the
other taking the lead. The racing was fast and furious right to the very end,
the drivers finishing to a round of applause.
There was a
short wait whilst the team scores were calculated, it could not have been much
closed the leading teams 2 and 3 having 436 and 431 laps respectively.
The final
overall result was:
Team 2 David Simpson, Richard Parker, Chris Snowden
and Kevin Flamson 861 Laps
Team 3 Lee Bishop, Fabien Gayraud, Robert Hambridge
and Louis Parker 855 Laps
Team 1 David Statham, Daniel Williams, Tom Wright
and Alex Barry 777 Laps
Team 4 Mike Simpson, Michelle Snowden, Alun
Williams and Mathew Stones 736 Laps
What an
evening, it seemed unbelievable that after 90 minutes racing only 6 laps
separated first and second place.
Everyone
had a great time and Easter Eggs were presented to both the winning and the
second place teams.
SPRING LEAGUE ROUND 1
The first round of the Spring
League was held on 16th March, there are a total of ten rounds with
the best eight for each driver to count.
The evenings racing proved to be very exciting with David Simpson being
fastest qualifier in Division 1 followed by David Statham, Lee Bishop and Mike
Simpson. In Division 2 Daniel Williams was fastest ahead of Fabien Gayraud, Tom
Wright and David Brookes.
The finals were next, Daniel
ran away with the “B” Final, Fabien was second and Tom third. The “A” Final saw Mike Simpson take first
place with 51 laps, ahead of David Statham, Lee and David Simpson.
So after the first round
David Simpson and David Statham are joint leaders in Division 1, Daniel
Williams leads Division 2 with Fabien Gayraud second and Tom Wright third.
I am sure the positions will
change over the next nine rounds and with trophies to win everyone will be
trying their best to win.
MARCH 2nd CLUBNIGHT
With just two heats of mardaves
per round the opportunity was taken to extend the qualifying race durations to
8 minutes.
The track was very fast which
suited David Statham who was in top form and after the three qualifying rounds
rounds he was top qualifier on 57 laps, a full three laps ahead of second and
third placed drivers Mike Simpson and Lee Bishop who were both tied on 54 laps
with just over a second between them.
Robert Hambridge was the fastest driver on the track but only qualified
in fourth spot due to mechanical problems, Daniel Williams also drove well to
take 5th position.
It was the finals next which
were of 11 minutes duration, a real test of batteries, nerve and concentration.
First up was the “B” final,
which was easily won by Richard Parker on 61 laps with Fabien Gayraud second 19
laps down.
With the top 6 drivers lined
up on the grid the “A” final got underway, problems almost straight away for
David Statham with his body shell coming adrift and costing him valuable
time. The race continued at a fast and
furious pace with Mike Simpson leading but being challenged by Lee Bishop with
David Statham steadily making up ground. Robert Hambridge was flying but again
consistency let him down.
Into the final minute Mike
was still leading but David closing the gap and taking the lead on the final
lap only to make a mistake on the very last corner just 2 metres from the
finishing line allowing the opportunity for Mike to overtake and win the race
on 72 laps – just 3 seconds ahead in 11 minutes! You cannot get much closer than
that. Lee Bishop finished in third
place with a fine 71 laps.
LEE TAKES THE PANCAKE
After qualifying in fourth
place behind David Simpson, David Statham and Robert Hambridge, Lee Bishop was
on a roll in the 10 minute final winning with 65 laps. He was chased right to
the line by David Statham who finished in second place just 4 seconds behind.
Free pancakes were served
after round 2, many thanks to Stacey for organizing everything.
Next week sees the start of
the 2010 Super-league which comprises of 6 rounds being run alternate months to
December.
ROB MAKES A CHARGE
The penultimate round of the
winter league saw Robert Hambridge on top form with a blistering run in the
nine minute duration final finishing in second place with 50 laps close behind
David Simpson. It will all be down to
the final round on 9th February so look out for some competitive
racing next week.
.
LEE UNWINDS AT SPEED
Racing round the track in the
anti-clockwise direction for a change on 26th January the Mardave qualifying
heats were dominated by David Simpson and Lee Bishop with David just taking
pole position by 2 seconds and Robert Hambridge third two laps down.
The finals were eight minutes
duration and very competitive, Lee just managed to hold off the challenge from
David and won with 51 laps, Mike Simpson was third with 49 laps.
In the “B” final Richard
Parker won with 40 laps and second was Fabien Gayraud on 30.
Ian Plimmer was way out in
front in the 1/12th pan cars, being both fastest qualifier and winning
the final by a margin of 5 laps from Chris Holmes.
WINTER LEAGUE ROUND 7
With a total of thirteen
drivers in the mardave class split into two heats and all keen to improve their
league position, everything was set for an entertaining evenings racing.
In the three qualifying heats
David Simpson set the early pace in rounds one and two but David Statham had a
superb drive in round three to take pole position in the final by less than half a second from David Simpson.
The “B” final was first and Daniel
Williams had a runaway victory completing 37 laps with David Brookes second on
29. Ben Hopcott was third with 28 laps followed by Mathew Stones and Louis
Parker who both had 24 laps each.
The “A” final was very close,
it was a battle between the two David’s with David Statham winning again by
less than half a second from David Simpson and taking a maximum 41 points for
the evening. With only three rounds
left in the league things are very close so watch out for some very competitive
racing over the next few weeks.
XMAS FUN NIGHT
The final event of 2009 was
the XMAS Fun night held on Tuesday 22nd December, with free racing
for all, everyone was keen to set out the track and get started.
A Team endurance race of 50
minutes duration was first up, four drivers per team with a maximum of two cars
per team allowed to race at any one time so team tactics and quick changeovers
would play a part in getting the best result.
With eight cars lined up on
the grid the race began, disaster struck team Mike Simpson’s team with Ben
Hopcott’s car refusing to start due to a faulty speed controller. The racing
was fast and furious, the track having a tricky section in the center with a
chicane that caught many drivers out. Another early casualty was Kevin Flamson
putting more pressure on his other team members.
At the half way stage things
were very close with David Simpson’s team in the lead closely followed by
Robert Hambridge’s all stars and Lee Bishop’s harem. Mike Simpson’s team were trailing the rest, Ben Hopcott managed
to complete a few laps in reverse but Louis Parker and Mike were struggling to
keep up the pace, although Mike completed a 34 minute run in his mardave on the
same battery!
At the end of 50 minutes the
results were:
Team “A” 491 LAPS David Simpson, David Statham, Richard
Parker, Daniel Lacey
Team “D” 439 LAPS Lee Bishop, Richard Brookes, Stacey
Atterbury, Michelle Snowden
Team “C” 423 LAPS Rob Hambridge, Daniel Williams, David
Brookes, Kevin Flamson
Team “B” 230 LAPS Mike Simpson, Louis Parker, Ben Hopcott
Oval racing was next on the
agenda so after a short break to revamp the track layout everyone was ready to
race.
This time it was a 10 minute
race with the drivers being split into two heats.
Richard Parker was the winner
of heat 1 with 89 laps, followed by Michelle Snowden and David Brookes each
with 69 laps.
With all the fastest drivers
lined up for heat 2 a rolling start was used so everyone had to follow the lead
car Mike Simpson around on the warm up lap before accelerating away across the
start line. Daniel Williams had high
expectations after borrowing a fully peaked up 4600 battery and shot away from
the start at great speed. However the extra pace of the oval meant that any
mistakes could prove costly and Daniel soon returned to the pits after shearing
his battery case securing bolts. Some very close racing ensued, maintaining
concentration for the full ten minutes was vital when dicing at speed and the
eventual winner was David Simpson with 121 laps, second Mike Simpson 118 laps
and third Lee Bishop 116 laps.
Another round of oval racing
took place for those who wished, Chris Snowden taking a novel route underneath
the carpet made for some interesting driving and the evening concluded with
prizes for the winning team and oval winner being presented by Stacey.
See results page for complete
results.
Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year to all members, remember the 2010 season starts on Tuesday 5th
January with round 6 of the winter league so make sure your batteries are fully
charged and cars in race condition.
SUPERLEAGUE 2009
The final round of the 2009
superleague was held on Tuesday 15th December, with only mardave
league winner to be decided it was a family contest between Mike and David
Simpson. David won both the qualifying
and the A Final to take the league title with Mike being the runner up. Robert
Hambridge seems to have got his car really flying so watch out for some good
performances from him during 2010.
XMAS NIGHT OUT
A great evening
out at Wing Wah’s in Burton took place on Saturday 5th December,
many thanks to Stacey for organizing everything.
SUPERLEAGUE ROUND 5
The
penultimate round of the 2009 superleague was held on Tuesday 27th
October, there was some excellent racing in the mardave’s class with David
Simpson taking the fastest qualifier spot and consequently pole position in the
A final.
The finals
were of 8 minutes duration, the “B” final being won by Daniel Williams with an
impressive 52 laps ahead of Andy Clements on 51 and Robert Hambridge with 50
laps.
The “A”
final proved to be a very close race with all drivers lapping under 8 seconds,
at the finish David was the winner with 56 laps, Mike Simpson a lap adrift on
55 and David Statham 51.
Lee Twigg took maximum points
again in the 1/10th scale saloons and is now assured of winning the
league.
The final round will be held
on Tuesday 15th December, this should prove an interesting evening
for the mardaves as the only two drivers now able to win the league are Mike and
David.Simpson. With 5 of the 6 rounds completed Mike is currently leading on
490 points from 5 rounds and David Simpson on 397 from 4 rounds ------will
there be any team orders on the night or will David be walking home!
OCTOBER TEAM EVENT
The team event
held on Tuesday 13th October was a great success, the drivers were
split up into three teams with the two main rules being that each team had to
continuously man its allotted marshalling point and were only allowed a maximum
of two drivers on the track at any one time. There were two rounds each being
of 40 minutes duration.
Team three David Statham,
Kevin Flamson, Nigel Shaw and Lee Twigg were the runaway winners of the first
heat with 511 laps, Lee Bishop, Robert Hambridge and Richard Brookes were second
on 455 and Mike Simpson, David Simpson and Daniel Williams third on 404. Lee Bishop managed a total of 196 laps with
his mardave, due to a technical problem with the transponders David Simpson’s
laps did not all register.
After a 15 minute break everyone
was ready for the second round which proved to be incredibly close. With 5 minutes to left in the race all the
teams were virtually level and the pressure was on to keep going. At the finish
only 7 laps separated all three teams with Mike Simpson, David Simpson and
Daniel Williams winning on 488 laps, David Statham’s team second on 484 and Lee
Bishop’s team third on 481. Mike
Simpson recorded a tremendous 254 laps on just two batteries and Daniel
181after David retired early in the round with damaged servo wiring putting the
pressure on the two remaining drivers.
Just to make the evening
complete and ensure nobody went home hungry Stacey had brought some freshly
baked some cakes, which were quickly devoured – thanks Stacey.
SUPERLEAGUE ROUND 4
Round 4 was
held on 29th September, in the mardave class a close battle ensued

extended to 9 minute duration which tested the drivers concentration. The B
final was won by the ever improving Daniel Williams with Richard Brooks very
close behind on the same number of laps.
The 1/10th scale
saloons was won by Richard Wroughton taking maximum points.

Wroughton also on 37 laps.
The finals started with the B
final 1/10th scale, Steve Higham was the runaway winner on 33 laps
with Alister Hart taking second spot on 28 ahead of Tristan Davies in third
position with 25 laps.
The A final proved to be a
much more exciting race with the lead changing several times between Pete
Partridge and Chris Holmes. In the end
victory went to Chris Holmes with a lead of 2.5 seconds over Pete, both drivers
achieving an incredible 40 laps.
Next was the mardave B final

by taking second place in the final with second fastest qualifier Richard
Wroughton finishing well down the field.
The 1/10th scale saloon class was fiercely contested, Gavin
Maciver taking the fastest qualifier spot less than 2/10 second ahead of Chris
Holmes. Chris had his revenge in the
final though winning by nearly 2 seconds from Gavin in second place. It was
Staceys 21st birthday on Monday and everyone enjoyed a piece of
birthday cake in the shape of a car.
CLUBNIGHT 24th FEBRUARY – RICHARD
BEATEN FOR FIRST TIME IN 4 WEEKS
With a good mix of 1/10th
scale saloons and 1/12th scale mardaves an excellent evenings racing
was had by all. In the scale saloons Nigel
Shaw was the fastest qualifier with 37 laps, closely followed by Pete Partridge
with 36. Richard Wroughton came good in
the third heat to snatch the FTD from Mike Simpson, both drivers on 32 laps and
only separated by less than 1 second.
The finals followed and to make things interesting the races were
extended from the usual 5 minutes to 7 minutes. Richard Wroughton made a great start to the A final only to
retire with technical problems, Nigel Shaw eventually took the lead held off
the opposition to win with 49 laps with Pete Partridge just 4 seconds
behind. The mardave A final was equally
as exciting with Richard Wroughton, Mike Simpson and Steve Hunt being equally
matched for speed. Experience
eventually won the day with Richard falling back and bringing to an end his 4
week unbeaten run, Mike winning on 45 laps and Steve second on 44.
SPRING LEAGUE 2009 ROUND 1
February 10th was
the first round of the spring league, there will be ten rounds with the best
eight to count for each driver. Richard
Wroughton once again dominated the mardave class winning all of the qualifying
heats and the final, his main challengers were Mike Simpson and Steve Hunt with
Chris Ward improving rapidly in the final after some adjustments to his car –
watch out for a good performance from him next week! Lee Devey was the fastest qualifier in the 1/10th
scale saloons but Pete Partridge beat him by three laps in the final. It was good to see Michelle Snowden racing
again and finishing an excellent third place in the final. The 1/14th scale racing was fast
and furious, Gavin Maciver was both fastest qualifier and winner of the final,
Daniel Lacey continued to have problems with his car and Chris Holmes went out
in style when his motor started smoking.
CLUBNIGHT 3rd FEBRUARY
Richard Wroughton was on top
form with his mardave winning all of the qualifying heats and the final, Mike
Simpson was only a couple of seconds behind in the final but could not beat
Richard. The 1/14th scale
racing was very exciting with some fast laps, Colin Butlin being the fastest
qualifier and Daz Hoyland winning the final.
Daniel Lacey’s car was very fast but kept overheating and cutting out –
a change of gearing required?
CLUBNIGHT 27 JANUARY
Lee Bishop again was the
fastest mardave, this makes it three weeks in succession! Come on you mardave drivers let’s see what
you are made of, get those cars set up to perfection and give Lee a run for his
money. In the 1/10th scale
saloons some extremely fast lap times were achieved with James Hart taking the
honours from Nigel Shaw in second place.
LEAGUE FINAL ROUND 13 JANUARY
Lee Bishop
dominated the Mardave class being fastest qualifier and also winning the final,
it was a similar story in the 1/10th scale saloons with Pete
Partridge doing the same. The winners
of the league were Mike Simpson in the Mardave class and Robert Hambridge in
the 1/10th saloons.
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009
After a
weeks break for Christmas everyone was ready to race again, things were very
competitive in both the Mardave and 1/14th scale classes. David Simpson who was racing his Mardave for
the first time in several months tried his best to beat his dad who was
sporting a newly painted bodyshell complete with giant rear wing. In the end experience won the day with David
having a few technical problems with his car and his batteries. Fastest driver on the track was Lee Bishop,
several accidents however resulted in him being second fastest qualifier and
third in the final.
Gavin
Maciver was fastest qualifier in the 1/14th scale class followed by
Chris Holmes who’s car was hot, a little too hot as the battery was
smoking. The final was a different
story with Michael Blackburn putting in a very clean drive to win two laps
clear of Gavin in second place.
XMAS BURN UP – ENDURANCE RACE 23rd
DECEMBER
A total of
four teams entered the endurance race, the rules were very simple – two 50
minute duration races the laps accumulated by each team member being added
together to give the team score. Just to
make things more interesting only two cars from each team were allowed on the
track at a time and one driver from each team had to be at the teams
marshalling point at all times. This
meant that teamwork was at a premium to try and keep two cars on the track for
most of the time. From the start Gavin
Maciver and Pete Partridge were setting the pace and it soon became apparent
that in excess of 10 minutes run time was achievable. Others were not doing so well with Kevin Flamson’s car retiring
after going up in smoke and Zach Clements suffering a damaged pinion and only
managing 4 laps. This put the pressure
on their other team members and also their cars motors, batteries and speed
controllers. After the first round
Richard Wroughton, Chris Snowden and Lee Bishop were the leaders on 533 laps
followed by Gavin Maciver, Rob Hambridge and Kevin Flamson on 501. Following a 15 minute gap the second and
final round got underway. With Kevin
Flamson “burnt out” Gavin and his team could only manage 409 laps which cost
them second place as the ever consistent Lee Twigg put in another fine
performance to lead his team to a 514 lap total. Richard Wroughtons team again dominated and finished with 552
laps. The final result was: Winners
Richard Wroughton, Chris Snowden and Lee Bishop on 1085, second Lee Twigg, Mike
Simpson and Zach Clements on 972, third
Gavin Maciver, Rob Hambridge and Kevin Flamson on 915 and fourth Pete
Partridge, Daz Holyfield and Colin Butlin with 888 laps.
XMAS FUN-NIGHT 16th DECEMBER
A great
time was had by all at the Christmas fun-night, some exciting racing took place
including a round of “musical carpets”. After two rounds it was time to sample
the chip butties which went down well and then the raffle. There were some
fantastic prizes to be won and Steve Hunt was the luck winner of the Strada TC
ready to run touring car. Many thanks to Stacey for doing all the organization,
the money raised will be donated to charity.
XMAS BURN UP 23rd DECEMBER
There will
also be an XMAS burn up on December 23rd, it will be a team event so
watch this space for more details.
WING WAHs NIGHT OUT
A great time was had by all
on the recent night out in Burton, after checking out most of the local ales and
a meal at Wing Wahs there was just time to visit a couple more pubs before
going home. Thanks once again to Stacey for doing such a great job organising
everything – see photos.
SUPERLEAGUE
The final
round of the 2008 superleague was be held on 9th December, victor in
the mardave class was Mike Simpson with Robert Hambridge winning the 1/10th
scale saloons on the final round.
AUTUMN LEAGUE
Eight
rounds of the Autumn League have now been completed so with only two more
rounds left Mike Simpson leads the Mardave class, in the 1/10th
Saloons Robert Hambridge leads Division 1 and Philip Wright Division 2. Pete Partridge leads the Buggies and Dane
Clements the V12 Stocks. It was good to
see Wayne Moody returning to racing after a long spell, watch out for his
Mardave in future weeks.
AUGUST TROPHY MEETING
Having
repaired the damaged transponder loop extension cable the August Trophy meeting
was run on Tuesday 9th September, the summer league trophy
presentation also took place the same evening.
The Autumn League started with Round 1 being completed on 16th
September
FUN NIGHT AND BBQ 19th AUGUST
SUMMER LEAGUE
BUGGIES ARE BACK!
SUMMER LEAGUE ROUND 7
GRESLEY FESTIVAL OF LEISURE SUNDAY 29th
JUNE
After last years event was cancelled due to a flooded
track there was a good turn out on a dry, warm Sunday morning everyone looking
forward to a great days racing outside on the tarmac. It was good to see so many members wearing the clubs new design
tee shirts (if you have not got one yet see Stacey). After setting up the track complete with an overhead loop the
racing began. With most people used to
indoor carpet the conditions proved a little difficult at first with grip being
at a premium, the exception to this were the buggy’s which stuck to the track
like glue. A slight rainstorm held up
proceedings after round 1 but after brushing off the surface water things soon
dried out. Some exciting racing
followed until round 4 when disaster struck!
Down came the rain in torrents flooding the surface and forcing the
event to be abandoned. All got soaked
to the skin collecting up the track and transporting it back to the club.
The winner of the Mardave class was Mike Simpson on 37
laps, in the Buggy’s Adrian Bunyard was the fastest on 42 laps, the saloons was
won by John Vaughan with 44 laps and the V12 bangers champion was Lee Twigg who
battled round 34 laps. Thanks go to
Chris Ward for organizing and Stacey Atterbury for the leaflets and
advertising. Same again next year? or
will it be model boats.
FUN
NIGHT
The May fun
night was a great success with everyone having an exciting evenings
racing. The track was set up in a
figure of eight configuration so some fine judgment of speed and distance was
required to avoid a major accident.
First up was a round of projector racing which tested all the drivers’
skills to the max. Following this there
were three more rounds of normal racing with a few caravans thrown in. With a
full complement of ten Mardave V12 bangers battling round the track in heat
three there was plenty of entertainment for the spectators. Most laps of the night went to Mike Simpson
driving his mardave on 51 laps (yet another wishbone broken) and second was
Mark Wistow with his 1/10th scale saloon. In the bangers the laps did not matter too much, the main object
was just to survive!
SUMMER LEAGUE 2008
Three rounds of the league
have now taken place with classes for 1/10th scale stock saloons,
1/12th Mardaves and Mardave V12 bangers. With the best eight from a possible ten rounds to count it is
early days, see the latest results page for the current positions. It was good to see one of the committee
members Kevin Flamson sporting the latest in designer haircuts – short front,
long back and sides, I wonder if we will see some of the “A” list celebrities
following this trend.
APRIL TROPHY MEETING
The April 29th saw
some very close and exciting racing; Pete Partridge was the fastest qualifier
in the 1/10th scale saloons and started the “A” final on pole. It was Lee Twigg however who had an easy win
three laps clear of Michael Blackburn in second place. In the “B” final Stacey Atterbury showed
everyone a clean pair of heels with a fine victory, Robert Hambridge the
slowest qualifier improved his performance to take second place but still three
laps down. Philip Wright who had qualified
on pole suffered a mechanical breakdown after nine laps and finished a
disappointing last place. Next up were
the mardaves, this turned into a close race between Mike Simpson, Lee Bishop
and Lee Devey, all the cars being evenly matched. Mike was the eventual winner with Lee Bishop taking second
place. The last final to be run was the
V12 mardave bangers; Andy Clements battled his way round to take the honours
from Lee Bishop in second place.
After storing all the
equipment away the trophies were presented by the club chairman Chris Ward. The winter league trophies were also
presented.
SUNDAY MEETING – APRIL 13th
The club held a Sunday
meeting, which was mainly a fun day using a short oval circuit and racing
banger style, to race you had to have a Mardave V12 with a hard shell.
The rules were simple, to win you must survive (no Marshals – your cars out,
you are out). The day was a great
success and it is planned to repeat it in the near future.
A.G.M APRIL 22nd
The Annual General Meeting
was held on 22nd April followed by free racing.
WINTER
LEAGUE FINAL RESULTS
The Mardave Division 1 was
won by Chris Holmes with a total of 807 points, second place went to Adam White
on 786. Division 2 was a Clements
family challenge with Dane Clements winning on 685 points and Andy second with
505 points.
In the1/10th scale
saloons Lee Twigg took the Division 1 title by storm being the only driver in
the competition to attain the maximum 808 points, well done Lee. Some way behind on 779 points was second
place driver Robert Hambridge. In Division
2 things were very close all the way through, congratulations to Liam Woodfield
who won the league title with 797 points, just four points clear of Stacey
Atterbury who although taking maximum points on five of the rounds and having
her own personal electronic message board and pit crew could not quite match
Liams performance.
PHOTOS
Check out “photos 2007” for
more pictures from the XMAS 2007 fun-night showing many of the caravans and the
team event winners Stacey Atterbury, Stuart Hunt, Mike Ayres and Chris Holmes.
WINTER
LEAGUE
With only the final round
remaining in the winter league not all of the winners and runners-up places
have yet been decided, so everyone is looking forward to an exciting final
round on the 25th March. Don’t forget there will be a total of ten
rounds with each drivers best eight round scores to count. For each division
the drivers qualifying and final result will count with an extra point being
awarded to the fastest qualifier.
Qualifying - Winner 51
points, Second 49, Third 48 etc
Final - Winner 50, Second 49,
Third 48 etc
See the latest results page
for the current positions.
SUPER LEAGUE
The first of six rounds of
the 2008 super league was held on the 19th February, don’t forget this
league runs throughout the year with the final round being held in
December. There will be prizes awarded
for the winners and runners up of each division.
See the latest results page
for the current positions.
CHARITY FUN NIGHT 18th DECEMBER
The fun night was a great
success with a total of 26 drivers taking part. The first round was projector racing with the drivers only able
to see a video image of the track projected onto a screen. This certainly tested driving skills to the
limit and there were some surprisingly good performances. Next up was the judging of all the caravans
before they raced, the best caravan trophy was awarded to Carl Twigg and the
runner-up was Zach Clements. Judging
over the caravan racing began; some of the designs were not very robust and did
not stand up to the challenge for long but four heats of racing ensued giving
all the spectators plenty of excitement.
The winner of the fastest caravan trophy was Mike Simpson with Stuart Hunt
taking second place, both drivers completing 33 laps. There was then a short break for some refreshments, a fine buffet
including sandwiches, chips and sausages was kindly provided by Janet. The final round was a team event with 7
teams taking part and having to transfer their team transponder between team
members after each 5-minute race.
Things were very close but the eventual prize winners were team 4
comprising Stacey Atterbury, Stuart Hunt, Mike Ayres and Chris Holmes, they
managed a total of 191 laps during 20 minutes racing, the best marshal award
went to Robert Hambridge. After storing
away the track equipment the evening concluded with the prize giving. The super
league 2007 trophies were presented first and finally the winning raffle
tickets were drawn by Martin and Richard Wroughton. There were a tremendous amount of prizes to be won and with the
major ones being drawn last everyone was kept on their toes checking their
ticket numbers. Many thanks to Richard
Wroughton for organizing the event which made over £100 for charity. We wish all our members a merry Christmas
and a happy New Year; Check out the
2007 photos.
SUPERLEAGUE 2007
With the final round being
completed on 11th December Adam White is the Mardave 2007 champion
with Mike Simpson the runner-up. The
1/10th scale winner is Lee Twigg after taking maximum points in
round 6 and pushing Mike Ayres down into second place. The 1/12th scale title went to
Michelle Snowden.
NOVEMBER TROPHY MEETING
Stacey Atterbury had a fine
win in the 1/10th scale “B” Final with Keir Walters in second place
one lap behind. In the “A” Final things
were very close between Robert Hambridge and Lee Twigg, both drivers finished
on 27 laps with Robert winning and Lee second.
Callum Ward put in a great
performance to win the Mardave “B” Final, two laps clear of Michelle
Snowden. The last race of the evening
was the Mardave “A” Final, this proved to be a runaway victory for Chris Holmes
on 30 laps with Steve Hunt 4 laps back taking second place.
AUTUMN LEAGUE
The autumn league is finished
with Adam White winning the mardave division 1 with a convincing maximum points
on each of the final four rounds, his nearest challenger was Mike Simpson in
second place some 34 points adrift. It is good to see the large number of
mardaves at present, which should make for some great racing. The 1/10th scale division 1
turned into a Twigg family battle with Lee taking the league title and Carl
finishing second. In division 2 Andy
Wright was the runaway winner and is promoted into division 1, second place
went to Philip Wright. Michelle Snowden
won the 1/12th scale class with Chris Holmes second having moved to
the mardave class.
LAP COUNTING SYSTEM UPGRADE
The club has recently
purchased a new AMBrc system so drivers will now be able to use personal
transponders if they have them rather than using the “hand out” ones. Please ensure that you register your
personal transponder at race control.
AUTUMN LEAGUE
The autumn league is nearly
complete with only the final round 10 remaining, quite a few members were on holiday during the first three rounds
there was time for some extra long races so 7 minute heats and 8 minute long
finals were the order of the day.
Despite the extra time there were some very close results. With the dark evenings upon us the number of
drivers racing each week is increasing, don’t forget that there will trophies
to win with the best 7 rounds to count as round 6 was cancelled due to an
uncharacteristic problem with the old AMB20 lap counting system. The last few weeks have seen an increase in
the number of Mardaves, which has made for some very exciting racing. Chris Holmes is the latest driver to join
the Mardave clan, having struggled to set up his car this week I am sure he
will soon be challenging Adam White for the top drivers spot. Check the results page for the latest
positions.
SUPERLEAGUE 2007 ROUND 5
With only the December round
to complete Mike Simpson leads the mardave class with Adam White in second
place and Callum Ward third. As only the
best five from a possible six rounds count Adam White is well placed to take
the winners trophy barring a breakdown.
In the 1/10th scale stock class both Carl and Lee Twigg
missed round five so Kevin Flamson is now leading with Mike Ayres in second place. Looks like the trophy winners will be
decided on the final round so expect some very competitive racing in
December. In the 1/12th
scale class Michelle Snowden retains her lead despite only being a spectator in
round five.
FUN NIGHT FRIDAY AUGUST 24th
A special fun night was held
on Friday August 24th, this was a surprise event for Robert
Hambridge as part of his 21st birthday celebrations. The evening was a great success with two rounds of projector racing to test all
the drivers skills, nearly everyone brought along a caravan although some stood
up to the stress of racing better than others – major repairs being necessary
to some between races. After a short
break to cut the cake and eat the fantastic spread of food that was provided by
Robert’s parents, thanks also go to Stacey for all the decorations. The event
concluded with a football match, Adam White proved to be the star managing to
score several goals by guiding the ball with his car.
SUMMER LEAGUE FINAL RESULTS
The league is now complete
after the final round on 17th July, some of the results went down to
the wire making it an exciting evening.
In the mardave division David Simpson was the fastest qualifier and
managed to take the winners spot from Adam White who finished second after
winning a very competitive final. In
the 1/10th scale division 1 John Vaughan was the winner with Robert
Hambridge second just ahead of Lee and Carl Twigg. Stacey Atterbury was the runaway victor in division 2, Andy
Wright finishing second. Michelle Snowden
won the 1/12th scale division.
Best marshal award for the evening went to Michelle Flamson. See the results pages for more details.
JUNE TROPHY MEETING
A total of 19 drivers entered
the trophy meeting on June 22nd, after the three qualifying heats
David Simpson was fastest in the Mardave class, Adam White led the 1/10th
scale and Gavin Maciver the 1/12th scale saloons. Michelle Snowden running her 1/12th
scale with the mardaves put in some fine performances to beat Mike, Callum and
Robert. There were a few casualties
however with Stacey Atterbury breaking the steering on her shiny pink car in
the last round. The question then was
would Robert let Stacey drive his best car in the finals?
The “C” final was the first
to be run, Kevin Flamson was on pole but Stacey soon took the lead and won
although struggling to control Roberts car – was it the different colour that
foxed her! Kevin finished four laps
down in second with Philip Wright third.
Next was the “B” final which saw some very exciting racing, the lead
changing hands several times throughout the race. Lee Twigg eventually won by taking the lead on the last lap from
Robert Hambridge only three seconds separating them at the finish. Michelle Snowden after leading the race
eventually finished in third place. The
“A” final saw some very fast lap times with John Vaughan and Adam White dicing
for the lead, Adam was lapping fastest but a problem with his body shell
effectively ended his chances of winning so John was the victor, Adam second and
Richard Wroughton third. This just left
the Mardaves to race and it turned out to be a great final with David and Mike
Simpson neck and neck all the way through the race, David eventually winning by
three and a half seconds. An excellent
drive by Callum Ward took him into third place, well-done Callum. The standard of marshalling was very good
throughout and Michelle Flamson was presented with a medallion for being judged
to be marshal of the week.
CHURCH GRESLEY FESTIVAL OF LEISURE SUNDAY 24th
JUNE
Due to the inclement weather
and consequent flooding of the track, the event was cancelled.
SUPERLEAGUE 2007 ROUND 3
With three of the six rounds
completed Mike Simpson leads the mardave class with Callum Ward in second
place. David Simpson took maximum
points being fastest qualifier and winning the final, Adam White is well placed
in third position having missed round 2.
The 1/10th scale stock class has become a Twigg family
challenge with Lee leading and Carl in second place. Kevin Flamson is in third
position. In the 1/12th
scale class Michelle Snowden retains her lead and with some fancy footwork also
won the marshal of the week award. The
league continues throughout the year with driver’s best five rounds from a
possible six to count, the next round is in August.
MARSHAL OF THE WEEK
Michelle Snowden was best
marshal on 12th June winning a medallion, the ribbon of which would
not quite slip over her head without removing her hat! She also won on 19th June and
joins Liam Woodfield in the lead towards the prize for the driver judged to be
the best marshal of the summer league series.
SUMMER LEAGUE
A Summer League consisting of
10 rounds commenced on the 1st May with each drivers 8 best round
scores to count. There will normally be
three heats and a final each week with both the qualifying rounds and finals
counting. An additional point will be
added in each league division for the driver who is the fastest qualifier
provided they also win the final.
After round seven Adam White
leads the way in the mardave division from Mike Simpson in second place and
David Simpson in third. In the 1/10th
scale stock Division 1 the results are very close with Lee Twigg taking over as
leader from John Vaughan in second place and Robert Hambridge on third. There have been some changes to the leaders
in the 1/10th scale stock Division 2 with Stacey Atterbury now way
out in front having taken maximum points from four rounds. Andy Wright is second and Philip Wright
third, the “Flying Flamsons” Kevin and Michelle dropping back to fourth and
fifth places.
Michelle Snowden continues to
lead the 1/12th scale class with some good driving in each of the
first seven rounds, Gavin Maciver is in second place with his ultra fast car.
CHRIS AT THE HELM
Chris Ward has taken over
from Steve Dyche as the club chairman with Richard Wroughton as vice
chairman. Mike Simpson continues in
the role of secretary and Steve Hunt is the new treasurer.
APRIL 27th TROPHY MEETING
Adam White remains unbeatable
in the mardave class being fastest qualifier and winning the final, it was very
close for the second place trophy with Mike Simpson just finishing ahead of
John Vaughan by 1.8 seconds.
Martin Heath was the quickest
driver in the 1/10th scale class taking an easy victory by three
clear laps in the “A” final. It was a
Twigg family battle for second and third places with Lee finishing ahead of
Carl, both being on the same lap. In
the “B” final Perry Harrison just managed to hang on to first place despite his
car expiring near the end of the race. Stacey Atterbury showed the rest of the
lads a clean pair of heels in taking second place and almost catching
Perry. Well-done Stacey. The 1/12th scale open class saw some
very fast driving, Chris Holmes dominated the racing winning the final with
Richard Wroughton second. Gavin Maciver
was traveling down the straights at a phenomenal speed but finished last. Michelle Snowden again put in a very good
performance to take fourth place.
SUPERLEAGUE 2007 ROUND 2
Mike Simpson leads the
mardave class after taking maximum points in round 2 with Callum Ward in second
place. In the 1/10th scale
stock class Martin Heath moves up into first position six points clear of Mike
Ayres and a further point ahead of Lee Twigg.
Fastest driver on the track in both qualifying and the final was Richard
Wroughton. A fine performance by Stacey
Atterbury put her ahead of Robert Hambridge who failed to complete a single lap
in the final. Well done Stacey, however
it could be a long walk home if you beat him again! In the 1/12th scale John Aucott took maximum points
and leads after Michelle Snowden did not make the final. The next round takes place in June.
A.G.M APRIL 3rd
The Annual General Meeting
was held on 3rd April followed by free racing. Three new committee members were elected,
Chris Ward, Martin Heath and John Vaughan.
MARCH LEAGUE
Adam White won the mardave
class with Mike Simpson in second place following a disappointing final
round. John Vaughan took the 1/10th
scale title, Mike Ayres was second.
Michelle Snowden was able to relax in the last round as she already had
the 1/12th scale league title won, Richard Wroughton was the
runner-up.
MARCH LEAGUE WEEK 2
Adam White regained the lead
in the mardave class by being fastest qualifier and then winning the final,
Mike Simpson is down to second place just three points adrift. John Vaughan had his lead over Richard
Wroughton in the 1/10th scale class reduced to six points and
Michelle Snowden now has a commanding lead of twenty points in the 1/12th
scale class.
MARCH LEAGUE WEEK 1
Adam Whites hopes of
defending the mardave league title were dented a little when Mike Simpson took
FTQ, Adam however went on to win the final but trails in second position by one
point. John Vaughan seems to have got
the hang of the 1/10th scale taking maximum points by winning the
final and taking FTQ. With Chris Holmes
absent from the 1/12th scale class John Aucott took FTQ and had high
hopes of taking maximum points.
Michelle Snowden had different ideas however, comprehensively beating
John to win the final whilst still managing to keep her hat firmly in place on
her head.
FEBRUARY 20th TROPHY MEETING
The qualifying saw Jason
Thompson take the FTQ in the Mardave class with some great driving, Richard
Wroughton was fastest in the 1/10th scale and Chris Holmes in the
1/12th. With the starting
grid positions decided after three rounds of qualifying it was all down to the
finals to decide the trophy winners.
First off were the Mardaves and the race soon developed into a battle
between Jason Thompson and Adam White with Adam eventually winning by just over
two seconds, both drivers completing 34 laps.
Alex Thurston took third spot getting his revenge over Mike Simpson from
the previous week. There were three
finals in the 1/10th scale class.
The “A” final was a runaway victory for Richard Wroughton with 35 laps,
over three laps clear of second placed driver John Vaughan. The “B” final was a much closer race Mike
Ayres continuing his good run of form to win on 29 laps with new member Richard
Hambridge second on 28. The “C” final
was a family affair with the “Flying Flamsons” Kevin and Michelle in the same
race. I am not quite sure if there were
any team orders but Kevin took the winners trophy with Perry Harrison
second. This just left the 1/12th
scale final to run which again saw Chris Holmes win with the best performance
of the evening scoring 37 laps. At the
end of the evening the trophies including the January League were presented by
the race controller Martin Wroughton.
FEBRUARY 13th CLUBNIGHT
With no league or trophies at
stake this week all the drivers were getting in a bit of practice during the
three qualifying heats and a final.
John Vaughan was the fastest qualifier in the 1/10th scale
class by just 8/10th second from Richard Wroughton. However Richard got his revenge in the “A”
Final winning from John by a full lap.
In the “B” Final Michelle Flamson took full marks for perseverance after
taking just over two minutes to complete a lap when her car appeared to
developed a mind of its own due to problems with the steering. Chris Holmes again dominated the 1/12th
scale class lapping at a tremendous pace, Gavin Maciver was the next fastest
driver with Martin Heath in last place in his new car, keeping his chief
mechanic Nigel Shaw busy in the pits changing the set up. Only four Mardaves this week but some great
racing, Adam White again the winner but a very close thing between Mike Simpson
and Alex Thurston as they battled for second place. Mike got the upper hand this time but watch out for Alex next
week.
CHRIS FEELS THE STRAIN IN ROUND 1 OF THE
SUPERLEAGUE
Switching back to the 1/10th
scale stock class proved to be a bad move for Chris Bannister as he struggled
all evening trying to sort out technical problems with his car. Being the slowest qualifier on 13 laps and
only managing 2 laps in the final was a disaster, paving the way for Chris Ward
to take maximum points from the round.
No surprises in the Mardaves where Adam White remained in control and
the 1/12th scale leader was Chris Holmes with a very fast car.
SUPERLEAGUE 2007
The Super league will run for
six rounds each being held on alternate months and finishing in December.
Each evening’s scores will be
calculated from both qualifying and final positions using the following rules.
Qualifying – Winner 50
points, second 47, third 45, fourth 44 etc.
Final – Winner 50 points,
second 48, third 47, fourth 46 etc.
Maximum score 100 points if
fastest qualifier and fastest in the finals
Each driver’s best five
rounds scores from a possible six to count.
Just to make things different
the racing was in the anti-clockwise direction and it was good to have Martin
Wroughton back once more as the race controller. He did an excellent job with the commentary even after several
trips to the bar to quench his thirst.
Everyone soon got the hang of going round the opposite way to normal,
the fastest driver on the night being Richard Wroughton with 35 laps.
The first League of the year
is now complete and Adam White proved invincible once more in the Mardave class
winning with maximum points. It was
very close for second place however with Mike “I must get a speed controller
with reverse” Simpson ahead of John Vaughan on count back.
The 1/10th scale
champion was Mike Ayres after a convincing win in the final round, Carl Twigg
took second place ahead of the leader after three weeks Martin Heath who
finished third.
The 1/12th scale
victor on maximum points was Chris Holmes, Michelle Snowden was the runner-up
ahead of Chris Bannister who for once had a good final in round four.
After two consecutive weeks
of poor performances in the 1/10th scale finals, Chris Bannister
tried to reverse the trend by moving into the 1/12th scale
class. The result of the final was
never in doubt with Chris Holmes in total control, but once again the pressure
seemed to take its toll on Chris Bannister and he was comprehensively beaten
down into third place by an in form Michelle Snowden.
In the Mardave class Adam
White won yet another round but Mike Simpson moves up into the lead with John
Vaughan missing a round.
The 1/10th scale
class has a new leader in Carl Twigg with Martin Heath a close second just
three points in arrears.
The fourth and final round of
the league will decide the trophy winners so we look forward to an exciting
evening on the 23rd.
After missing round one Adam
White took maximum points in the Mardave class, John Vaughan still leads though
on 37 points with Mike Simpson second just 1 point behind. In the 1/10th scale class Chris
Bannister retained his lead on 35 points ahead of John Aucott on 33. Despite a few problems with his car Chris
Holmes had another maximum points to lead the 1/12th scale class.
The racing for 2007 got
underway with round one of the January League and it was good to see some new
drivers racing. With Adam White being
absent from the Mardave class it was a great opportunity for John Vaughan, Mike
Simpson or Tim Reed to take maximum points and put the pressure on Adam for the
remaining rounds. Some really close
racing ensued with John Vaughan winning the first qualifying round by 0.2
seconds then Mike Simpson regaining FTQ by winning round two. The third qualifier was a great race from
start to finish, John again coming out on top and winning by 4 seconds,
regaining FTQ. In the final things were
very close throughout the whole race between John, Mike and Tim Reed, in the
end Mike took won with John trailing by 4 seconds. This meant that after round one of the League John is the leader
on 20 points, Mike second on 19 and Tim third with 16 points.
In the 1/10th
scale class Chris Bannister dominated the qualifying rounds, the final was a different
story however with John Aucott winning by a clear three laps. The League positions are first Chris
Bannister 19 points, second John Aucott 18 and third Martin Heath 16 points.
In the 1/12th
scale class Chris Holmes took maximum points being the fastest qualifier and
also winning the final.
Michelle Snowden had a great
drive in the combined 1/10th and 1/12th “B” final,
keeping her concentration throughout the race.
With both eyes (including the one with a little eye shadow) firmly fixed
on the track she destroyed all the opposition to win by a fantastic five laps –
well done Michelle!
Daniel Lacey was the only
1/18th scale driver and a good qualifying score found things a little
hard going with the Mardave drivers in the final, retiring after only three
laps.
There are still three rounds
of the league remaining so there should be some great racing still to come.
The annual Christmas
fun-night was held on Tuesday 19th December and it was a really
great evening with everyone having a fantastic time. Steve Dyche was the race controller for the evening and he got
things underway with a round of caravan racing. It was good to see so many people had made the effort to make a
caravan, I cannot remember so many being entered before. Some were better constructed than others and
there were a few casualties before the end of the round. That was the easy round as round two was
made much more of a challenge as the drivers were unable to see their cars
directly as the stage curtains were closed.
They then had to drive by looking at a projected image of the hall from
a camcorder, this proved to be great fun and by special request round three
also used the projector but without caravans this time. The final round was “musical carpets” which
was a variation on musical chairs. Before this everyone tucked into some chip
butty’s, sausages and crisps kindly provided by the memorial club. Steve had to keep a careful eye on the final
round to ensure that there was not any cheating as drivers were not allowed to
reverse or travel anti-clockwise round the track. The winners and runners up of the four qualifying rounds went
into the final and Jason Thompson was the “musical carpet” winner.
After storing all the
equipment away the trophies were presented for the events and the 2006 super
league, followed by the raffle prizes.

Merry Christmas and a happy
New Year to all, the next club night will be on Tuesday 2nd January
2007 which gives everyone plenty of time to ensure their cars are tuned to
perfection for the new year.
The sixth and final round
took place on 12th December and the overall results were as
follows. Adam White won the mardave
class with Mike Simpson in second place.
In the 1/10th scale class Martin Heath took first place with
Perry Harrison second. Chris Holmes won
the 1/12th class and Daniel Lacey the 1/18th, see the
results page for all the details.
Another win for Adam White in
the mardave class winning all four rounds, Stuart Hunt gave him some serious
competition in the final round being just a few seconds slower. John Vaughan was second in the league, a
full twelve points adrift.
In the 1/10th
scale league leader after three rounds Chris Bannister seemed to have things
sewn up after being the fastest qualifier in round four. Disaster then struck in the final with his
speed controller failing after just two laps resulting in an early retirement
and finishing in last place. After the
final round both Chris Bannister and Martin Heath had scored 52 points with Lee
Twigg on 51. The tie break of points
scored on the discounted round was applied and Chris was declared the winner.
With only two 1/12th
scale cars running this month Chris Holmes took the honours after winning three
of the four rounds.
A trophy meeting took place
on 24th October with the usual three qualifying heats and a final
format. Vouchers were awarded for each of
the four final as follows; Winner £10, Second £5 and Third £3. See the results page for all the details.
The penultimate round of the
2006 super league saw some very good racing but nobody could prevent Adam White
taking maximum points for the second round in succession in the mardave
class. He is now well placed to
overtake the league leader Mike Simpson in the December final round. In the 1/10th scale modified
class Liam Brooks also took maximum points, but it looks like the league will
be decided on the final round results between Martin Heath and Perry Harrison.
Adam White took the mardave
class with maximum points winning each of the four rounds, leaving everyone
else competing for the minor places.
Mike Simpson was second and Tim Reed third. In the 1/10th scale modified class things were much
closer with Nigel Shaw the victor and Richard Wroughton second.
Adam White gained the only
maximum points in the league so far date this year being both fastest qualifier
and winning the mardave class final.
His only serious challenger being Jason Thompson with Mike Simpsons car
looking a little worse for wear after a series of crashes. In the 1/10th scale Darren Ford
was fastest being chased by Nigel Shaw and Richard Wroughton.
After his recent success in
the mardaves and a week as race controller Chris decided that the August 15th
club night was the time to try his hand at 1/10th scale drift car
racing. After qualifying in third
position he out drove all the opposition in the 7 minute final to win by three
clear laps from Chris Holmes in second place.
After the racing his car was subject to scrutineering and found to be
within the rules. Is there no end to
his talents – we await to see next week.
In the mardave class Adam White again dominated all the races, come on
mardave drivers lets see if someone can challenge Adam next week in the super
league.
Steve Hunt won the Mardave
class final on 1st August club night after qualifying in third
position. Mike Simpson was second with
fastest qualifier Adam White having a few technical problems with his car in
the final and only managed fourth place.
Having persuaded his son
Callum that as it was such a lovely evening he would be much better paddling in
his pool than going model car racing, Chris Ward sneaked out with Calums car
and along to the Buggy Club. A bit
rusty after a long lay off he still qualified third fastest and in the final
won by two clear laps. Everyone is
waiting to see what happens next week, will it be Callum or Chris racing. There are some that think he only won
because it was anti-clockwise night! – no pressure Chris.
A really great night was had
by all at the Gresley Memorial Club, the new lengths of PVC made up by Steve
Hunt for marking up the track perimeter made setting up and packing away much easier
and faster. The race area being much
larger than Woodville makes an ideal track for 1/12th scale. Some very close racing was seen particularly
in the Mardaves, fastest qualifier Stuart Hunt had to settle for third place in
the “A” final after a fine win by Adam White.
In the 1/10th scale modified Richard Wroughton was the final
winner with fastest driver Liam Brooks down to 4th spot.
This is really great news for
the Club, the Gresley Memorial Club building has all the necessary facilities
and a great track area complete with stage.
All the equipment was moved from the previous venue on Tuesday 4th
July, many thanks to all the people who helped, especially Martin and Tim who
provided the transport. There was time
to set up the track and have a practice session with a mixture of 1/12th
scale Mardaves, 1/12th scale modified and Chris with his 1/10th
scale drift car.
New track perimeter boarding
should be in place for the first club night on July 11th which will be
free, I am sure that the venue will prove to be very popular.
With Steve Dyche at race
control the April 18th Club night had a total of five races for
everyone, three qualifying heats and two finals complete with an entertaining
commentary. See the results page for
more details; don’t forget it is round 2 of the 2006 super league on 25th
April.
The club Annual General
Meeting was held on Tuesday 4th April at 7-00pm, followed by free
racing.
Annual membership fee £8 due
1st April, anyone who has not paid by April 25th will be
treated as a non-member.
Race fees £4 with £2
returnable for members assisting in packing the equipment away at the end of
the evening.
Mardave Division 1 winner was
Chris Holmes with Liam Brooks taking the runner up spot. In Division 2 John Vaughan was the champion
ahead of Chris Bannister in second place and is promoted to Division 1. Watch out for Perry Harrison in the May
League as he seems to have got his car really flying and gained maximum points
in the final round. See the results
page for all the detail.
SUPERLEAGUE 2006
The first round of the super
league was held on Tuesday 21st February, Chris Holmes leads the Mardave class and David Jalland the 1/18th
scale class after both being the fastest qualifiers in their respective classes
and subsequently taking second place in their finals.
Each evening’s scores are
calculated from both qualifying and final positions using the following rules.
Qualifying – Winner 50
points, second 47, third 45, fourth 44 etc.
Final – Winner 50 points,
second 48, third 47, fourth 46 etc.
Maximum score 100 points if
fastest qualifier and fastest in the finals
Each driver’s best five
rounds scores from a possible six to count.
A good evenings racing was
had on the valentines trophy meeting held on Tuesday 14th February,
see the results page to check on the winners.
The final round of the
January 2006 League is now complete with each drivers best three weeks points
scores counting towards their league score.
Chris Holmes was the winner of Mardave division 1 with Adam White the
runner up. Wayne Moody had a convincing
win in division 2 and is promoted to division 1 for March, second place driver
was Chris Bannister. In the 1/18th
scale division David Jalland was the victor with Ryan Scarratt taking second
spot after winning the last two rounds.
Four rounds of racing were
held with each team being able to discount its worst round score. Things were very close at halfway stage with
only a single lap separating the first two teams, third and fourth being on
equal laps. The team of Mike Simpson,
Steve Bailey and Nigel Shaw were the eventual winners on 287 laps with Adam
White, Tim Reed and David Jalland second on 262.
The xmas fun night was held
on the 20th December and was well supported with many drivers making and
decorating caravans ready for the traditional Christmas caravan racing. Prior to the action the vans were all lined
up and Martin our resident race controller had the task of judging which were
the best. The winning constructor was
Steve Bailey with a magnificent caravan and Wayne Moody took the runner up spot
with a very seasonal effort.
The racing was soon underway
and the Steve Bailey rig performed just as well as it looked. Two exciting heats and a final later the
Chris Holmes battled through to win the “fastest caravan” award with Steve
Bailey a close second. The prize for
the “most exciting driver” went to Stuart Hunt following a fine display of
acrobatics over the ramp with his mardave – nearly succeeding in disappearing
down Mike Simpsons camera lens whilst he was taking some action shots. Best marshal of the night was Adam Bale.
The xmas raffle was drawn,
there were sixteen prizes to be won, first name out of the hat was Steve Hunt
winning the first prize of £30 voucher. Many thanks to Steve Dyche of Fastlane
Models and everyone else who donated a prize.
Congratulations to Katherine
White on being awarded the trophy for the best marshal of 2005. A medal has been awarded on weeks during the
year where the standard of marshalling has been exceptional, these counting
towards the overall award. Final
positions were.

Maximum score 100 points if

Each driver’s best five
rounds scores from a possible six to count.
Following the three
qualifying heats there were three Mardave and one 1/28th scale
final. Fastest qualifier in the mardave
class was Adam White, but in the “A” final he was beaten into second place by a
full lap by Liam Brooks. Tim Reed won
the “B” final and Daniel Farmer the “C”.
Katherine White and Shelly Snowden battled it out in the “C” final to
see who was to be the fastest lady driver, Katherine proved to be the victor
taking second place with Shelly finishing fourth. In the 1/28th scale final Ryan Scarratt won with 34
laps, a full four laps ahead of second place driver David Jalland, who in turn
was four laps ahead of Steve Dyche in third place.
A great time was had by all
with some really close racing making it exciting to watch for the
spectators. The three rounds of qualifying
heats were of six-minutes duration in the mardave and 1/28th scale
saloon classes with massive eight-minute duration finals. In the mardave “A” final fastest qualifier
Liam Brooks won by the narrowest of margins from Adam White and Stuart Hunt,
less than two seconds separating the first three cars. Liam was trailing in second place for most
of the race but took the lead with three laps to go. In the “B” final Luke Dickinson was the winner, one lap clear of
Mike Simpson. In the 1/28th
class things could not have been any closer, the lead changed hands several
times between Steve Dyche and Dave Williamson, Steve eventually just managing
to hang on to win with his batteries failing.
Incredibly he was only 1.7 seconds ahead of Dave after a full eight
minutes racing. The 1/10th
scale modified final also saw a close battle between Robert Arthur and Mike
Simpson, only three seconds separated them at the finish with Robert taking the
honours.
Starting on October 4th
there will be a separate class for 1/28th scale saloons, so if you
have one why not bring it along and test your skills against the other drivers.
With the holiday season in
full swing there were only eight competitors racing in the trophy meeting,
despite this some great racing took place and the relaxed atmosphere enabled
everyone the opportunity of picking up a bargain or two in the sale taking
place downstairs.
In the scale saloons Liam
Brooks dominated both the qualifying heats and the final, winning by a margin
of 7 laps from Mike Simpson. Robert
Arthur with his new motor and batteries was the second fastest qualifier but
was fell away in the final when his tyres (I think he has been running on the
same set for two years) eventually gave up.
Adam White is the person to
beat lately in the mardave class, a superb performance once again won him the
first place trophy with Tim Reed second and Ady Farmer third.
JULY LEAGUE
The final round of the July
League was held on Tuesday 26th July. In the 1/10th scale modified class Darren Ford and
Liam Brooks both had their cars really flying on a very tight track with Darren
being fastest qualifier and also winning the final. The league title however went to Liam following his consistently
fast performances throughout the month.
The 1/10th scale stock class league winner was Tom
Nicholson. Adam White took the 1/12th
scale Mardave Division 1 title which was keenly contested. Katherine White made it a clean sweep for
the White family in the Mardaves by securing the Division 2 title, winning all
three of the rounds that she entered.
MAY LEAGUE
Liam Brooks won the modified
class with Mike Simpson in second position.
The stock league was won by Daniel Farmer with maximum points, Tim Reed
was second. The mardave class was very
competitive, Division 1 was won by Adam White, Chris Snowden put in a strong
challenge in the final two rounds to take second place. The Division 2 title went to Adrian Farmer,
Gavin Maciver was runner up.
APRIL TROPHY MEETING
Robert Arthur had his car
setup to perfection in the modified class managing an incredible 45 laps in the
final to win by 4 laps from David Statham in second place. There was some close racing in the stock
class with Daniel Farmer winning the A final from Richard Davies. The B final was won by Tom Nicholson, Robert
Hutchinson was second a full lap behind.
In the Mardave A final Adam White once again triumphed with Jason
Canning taking second place. In the B
final Daniel Gee had a tremendous race winning by a large margin, Matthew Gee
was second.
MARCH LEAGUE
In the 1/10th scale modified class Robert
Arthur took first position, just managing to hold off a strong challenge from
David Statham in second place. In the
stock class Daniel Farmer took the league title with Robert Hutchinson in
second place one point ahead of Richard Davies. In the very popular 1/12th scale mardave class Adam
White won with maximum points, second place went to Ady Farmer. Steven Dyche was the champion in the 1/18th
scale mini class, winning all four rounds, Steve Taylor-Maxwell was
second. In the buggies Stuart won the
Hunt family challenge with Steve Hunt second.
FEBRUARY TROPHY MEETING
With 26 drivers making it through to the finals some really
exciting racing ensued, many of the finals being fiercely contested to the last
lap, see the results page for details of the trophy winners.
JANUARY 2005 LEAGUE
The first league of the year
saw some fine racing in the modified division with Liam Brooks the victor
winning the last three rounds. Nigel
Shaw took the stock division 1 title with Jason Doran winning division 2. The mini class was a Snowden family
challenge with Shelley taking first place ahead of her dad. The prizes will be presented at the February
trophy meeting.
XMAS 2004 FUN NIGHT – 22nd DECEMBER
A great time was had by all with two rounds of caravan
racing and a round of musical carpets being held. There were some excellent caravans, the one made by Neil
Greenhalgh was judged to be the best but it proved to be a little unstable at
speed. Wayne Moodys giant sledge was by
far the largest vehicle, his speed controller was not quite up to getting
things moving however resulting in a cloud of smoke which no doubt burnt a hole
in his pocket. Robert Arthur was up to
his usual trick of borrowing a spare caravan from Mike Simpson and then setting
about beating everybody by taking the “fastest caravan” prize. May be there will be a constructors prize
next year! Kriss Collier took the award
for the most spectacular jump over the ramp and there were lots of raffle
prizes – thanks to Brian Dyche for organizing and to everyone who donated a
prize. There was plenty to eat
including mince pies and a free drink to wash them down with.
See the photo gallery for pictures.
SUPERLEAGUE 2004
With all six rounds completed
Robert Arthur was the winner in the modified class, followed by Mike
Simpson. The stock class was very close
with Kriss Collier taking the league title from the leader after five rounds
Tim Reed. In the mini class Steve Dyche
was the victor displacing Steve Taylor-Maxwell down into second place. There were prizes for Stock, Modified and
Mini classes
